Chelsea’s prize money at the FIFA Club World Cup to date after reaching final in USA

Chelsea have advanced into the Club World Cup final which has banked the Premier League side more than £30million in prize money, which is before any participation fee

Chelsea have landed just over £20million for making the final of the Club World Cup as they continue to enjoy the windfall that comes from FIFA’s newly expanded tournament.

The Blues saw off Fluminense on Tuesday night and are now one game away from lifting the trophy in the United States. Enzo Maresca’s side have got themselves back into the Champions League and they’re now mixing it and beating some of the world’s elite sides.

Alongside the sporting merits of that are the financial benefits, which is particularly helpful for the west Londoners given the sums they’ve spent in recent years. Just for reaching the final, where they will play either Real Madrid or PSG, they’ve banked £22.1m.

It means their total prize money from the tournament has now increased to £33.5m. That is before the participation fee, a figure believed to be close to £28m, which means the Premier League side have got themselves just over £60m from the Club World Cup.

That figure is going to massively aid their balance sheet with failure to meet PSR regulations previously resulting in points deductions. Already this summer the club have spent close to £200m and they need to ensure they have cash coming in to the club.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca told DAZN: “It is a great achievement. It has been a fantastic season; top four in the Premier League, Conference League and now in the final of this competition – we are so, so happy. We know that we have players that are able to do that and we know we have to help them get in situations where they can do that and we know Joao (Pedro) can do this.”

Pedro is their marquee signing of the summer so far, joining from Brighton in a £60m deal. The Brazilian has quickly looked to pay back that investment after becoming the 18th forward to sign for Chelsea in just over three years under their current owners.

The new man is now relishing the prospect of landing his first piece of silverware. He said: “It would be my first title as well. I think it will be a very important game, a very special game. I came one week ago and now I am going to play a final.

“I am very happy. The team have been very welcoming me and now we need to move forward. The other players didn’t make me ding, they just made me dance in the dressing room. I don’t know if they will make me dance again because I got man-of-the-match but the group is very good, they helped me a lot and I feel comfortable here.”
