Andrew’s House Station, famous for its North Pole Express events during the Christmas season, is the special venue for dining experience with a difference this summer

For those who relish the idea of savouring Britain’s beloved fish and chips in a unique setting, there’s an event taking place in the North East this summer that might just tickle your fancy. A renowned station in the region is offering fish and chip train rides, promising a dining experience like no other.

ChronicleLive readers have previously shown their fervour for this classic dish, participating in a poll earlier this year to determine the best local chippy. The competition was fierce, with popular spots like Fisherman’s Bay, The Harbour View, and Colmans all vying for the top spot.

The trips depart from Tanfield Railway

However, it was V Gormans of Ashington that ultimately took the crown. Now, if you’re always on the hunt for new places to enjoy a plate of fish and chips, you’ll want to make a beeline for Tanfield Railway.

This County Durham station, known for its festive North Pole Express events, is hosting steam train rides where passengers can indulge in the North East’s famous culinary delight.

Organised by Fox and Edward Events, these journeys feature heritage steam locomotives pulling carriages from the 1800s and 1900s, offering a nostalgic 70-minute trip from Andrew’s House Station.

The fish and chips are dished up at the journey’s midpoint, ready to be savoured on the return leg. Each ticket also includes a drink and a tasty flapjack or large biscuit. A whole meal.

For those who fancy something different (though we can’t imagine why you’d pass up on fish and chips), there’s also the option of sausage and chips or a cheese patty and chips.

A duo ticket for two adults is priced at £60, while a group of four adults will set you back £120. Tickets for children are available for £25, and a family ticket comes in at £95.

If you’re after a bit of luxury, you can upgrade to an exclusive table for an additional £15. Trips are open for booking at the end of this month, with further dates available throughout the months of August, September, and October. Better hurry, before it’s too late!

So, if you’re up for a unique adventure, hop on the iconic North Pole Express train for the ride of your life – and the best fish and chips. It’s an ideal start for a holiday with your family and friends, especially if you’re travelling with small children.
