A famous stuntman tragically plunged to his death mid-way through a performance in front of shocked holidaymakers.

Flyboarder Magdy Abdelghany, 44, is said to have fallen from a significant height and crashed to the ground in Sahl Hasheesh, eastern Egypt. The thrillseeker, whose shows involved launching into the air with water jets, lost control of his equipment on July 13.

He was rushed to Hurghada General Hospital with serious head injuries and passed away several days later. The freak accident is said to have occurred in front of hundreds of tourists.

Magdy, who boasted almost 100,000 Instagram followers, wasn’t wearing a safety helmet at the time. Red Sea Security Director Hassan Abdel Aziz said: “The flyboarder fell from a great height during a performance. Medical services were immediately dispatched to the scene, and a preliminary investigation showed that the athlete fell during the show and suffered multiple head injuries.”

His death was confirmed on his Instagram page on July 17. His brother said in a statement: “We announce with deep sadness and sorrow the passing of my brother, my mother’s and father’s son, my friend, my heart, and my entire life, Magdy Abdelghany, who passed away. A tribute will be held at the Al Mina Mosque events hall immediately after prayer on 18 July.”

Magdy had been delighting hotel guests with his skills since 2018. He amassed a large online following and was invited to perform at numerous events across the country. He performed at the African Footballer of the Year ceremony in 2019 when then-Liverpool star Sadio Mane scooped the award.

Before his death, Magdy described the sport as “an exceptional water experience that combines physical strength, balance, and excitement”. The Hurghada Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the flyboarder’s death.
