Melt away oven grease in minutes with cleaner’s two natural kitchen items

By staff23 July 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

If your oven door is covered in grease and grime, then you might want to try this cleaning hack that promises to banish dirt in under three minutes – and all you need is baking soda and tin foil

Over the years, grease, splashes, and charred remnants accumulate, transforming once-pristine oven glass into a murky, stained mess that’s far from appealing. When tackling oven cleaning duties, the door requires special care as it becomes grimy remarkably fast. Left unchecked, this build-up creates a stubborn layer of muck that becomes increasingly challenging to shift.

But regardless of how grotty your oven glass has become, cleaning guru Michelle from Crafty Morning has revealed a natural technique that delivers results in less than three minutes. Michelle put this cleaning trick to the test on her oven door, which was plagued with “grease splatters out of this world”.

She discovered this “brilliant hack” after traditional methods – including a magic eraser with water – simply “didn’t budge” the stubborn grime. This approach requires no expensive products, just some kitchen foil, bicarbonate of soda, and hot water, reports the Express.

Begin by splashing roughly three-quarters of a cup of hot water across the oven glass, then scatter a generous amount of bicarbonate of soda over the surface until it’s well covered.

Allow it to rest for 30 seconds before proceeding. Next, crumple up some kitchen foil and begin scrubbing for one to two minutes. Describing her results, Michelle remarked: “Barely even pushing, the grease started to disappear!”

Work the foil over the bicarbonate of soda-coated oven glass using circular movements until spotless. While you can dab the surface dry with kitchen roll, you’ll need some fresh, clean water to completely eliminate any remaining bicarbonate of soda residue.

Michelle said: “I can tell you after you do this, you will feel so satisfied with yourself! I really can’t believe this trick takes about three minutes start to finish, and I’ve been putting it off for no reason.”

Baking soda is a wonder-worker that’s non-toxic, cheap as chips, a doddle to use, and staggeringly good at tackling oven grime. Given that baking soda is alkaline and the gunk in your oven from food splatters is usually acidic, it’s a match made in heaven.

This humble powder works wonders by neutralising acids and breaking down the grease, meaning you can wipe away the mess without breaking a sweat.
