Martin Lewis tells more than a million pensioners they can claim £3,800

Support from the DWP is among the most underclaimed, with money saving expert Martin Lewis urging pensioners to check if they are eligible to claim £3,800

Money saving expert Martin Lewis is on a mission to get pensioners to check their eligibility for DWP payments. A staggering number of seniors are missing out on Attendance Allowance, even though they qualify for it. This benefit aims to assist those with health issues by covering related expenses.

Conditions such as arthritis, heart disease and dementia are among the common ailments that could warrant this support. With an annual value of either £3,842.80 or £5,644, Attendance Allowance can significantly enhance someone’s quality of life. Crucially, this benefit isn’t influenced by income or savings, meaning anyone can apply regardless of their financial situation.

Alarmingly, around 1.1 million individuals are not claiming the money they’re entitled to, reports Birmingham Live. Martin has been at the forefront of raising awareness about the low uptake of Attendance Allowance, urging the elderly to see if they’re eligible for this vital aid.

He commented: “For many older people who are ill or start to face mental or physical disability, life doesn’t just get tougher, it gets costlier too. That’s why 18 months ago we launched our Attendance Allowance guide and awareness campaign, and successes have flooded in since. Yet it remains massively underclaimed.”

The sum awarded depends on the care needs of the individual. Those eligible for the higher rate can receive £110.40 weekly, while the lower rate offers £73.90 per week.

Although intended for medical expenditures, recipients have the freedom to spend the money as they see fit. “For many older people who are ill or start to face mental or physical disability, life doesn’t just get tougher, it gets costlier too.
