Households urged to spray common kitchen ingredient into their fridges

By staff26 July 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

While cleaning your fridge may feel like a chore and expensive, households are now being urged to using simple kitchen ingredients. Here’s how to do it

Cleaning your fridge doesn't have to be complicated

If you own a stainless steel fridge, you’ll know how hard it is to upkeep. One minute it’s gleaming and the next it’s covered in fingerprints and streaks. But the good news is you don’t need to waste money on harsh chemical sprays – or risk damaging the finish.

Stainless steel looks great – it’s durable, rust-resistant and modern. But the downside is It shows up every mark. And over time, using the wrong products can ruin the polished look. That’s why it pays to switch to gentler, natural solutions that actually work using ingredients you probably already have at home.

A viral hack

On Tiktok there are many popular methods but one that does the job just as well as shop bought cleaners is simple, by adding half a cup of water, half a cup of white vinegar and a tablespoon of white vinegar to a spray bottle with a little shake, you can spray it directly onto your fridge and wipe clean with a soft cloth.

But for the stubborn marks, gently run with scrunched up foil, then spray and wipe again. If the vinegar smell is too much, adding in a few drops of essential oil can mask it well.

Using everyday items save you money in the long run

Every day items for quick fixes

Baking soda, olive oil, lemon juice and even fizzy drinks can all individually help with stains – seems questionable but it’s true.

Baking soda – mix with a little water to create a paste. Rub it into marks with a soft cloth, then wipe clean with a damp one.

Olive oil – make sure to use sparingly on a cloth to buff the surface to a shine after cleaning – always goes with the grain.

Lemon juice – mix lemon juice with water, wipe over the surface, then dry. Great for removing water spots and leaving a fresh smell.

Fizzy drinks – Pour into a spray bottle or onto a cloth and wipe down. The bubbles help lift grime and smudges, then simply dry with a clean cloth. But choose your fizzy drink wisely, lemonade works best – not sure if a can of coke will do the same job..

Keep these tricks as habits

It’s not just when you notice a mark when you should clean your fridge, if you do it regularly – it will be easier and stress free.

  • Clean marks as soon as you spot them
  • Use a soft cloth or microfibre to avoid scratches
  • Always wipe in the direction of the grain
  • Stick to natural solutions to preserve the finish
