A British woman has died after she suffered seizure symptoms while she went snorkelling on holiday.

The woman, 24, showed signs of distress when she went snorkelling at a popular diving spot in the Semangko Sea, Indonesia, near the famous travelling hotbed kown as ‘Pink Beach’.

The July 30 incident saw the woman and another person dive to around 50ft below the surface. Suddenly, she began convulsing as she started to resurface. The crew on a waiting boat managed to drag her back onboard. It comes after a Brit mum’s ‘horrendous’ death after being scratched by a puppy with rabies on holiday.

The young Brit, part of a tour group of 10 people, was no still breathing as she was rushed ashore, but pronounced dead before she reached a health centre nearby.

East Lombok Police’s head of public relations, Nikolas Osma, said: “At around 8:30 WITA, the group arrived at the first location, Gili Peteluan, for snorkelling. Then, at around 09:15 WITA, they continued to the second spot, Semangko Sea at Pink Beach, for more snorkelling activities.

“When she was about to return to the surface of the sea, the victim’s condition suddenly became unusual, so her friend guided her to the surface.”

Osma said the boat captain headed to the Telong-Elong Pier so the Brit could be taken by ambulance to the Jerowaru Community Health Centre, but she had sadly died by midday.

Her cause of death is currently unclear and her body remains at the Bhayangkara Hospital for a post-mortem exam.

It comes after a British brother and sister aged 11 and 13 have drowned off a beach on the north-eastern coast of Spain.

Emergency services were called to Llarga beach in Salou, near Tarragona, shortly after 8.45pm local time on Tuesday evening, Catalonia’s Civil Protection agency said. The children’s father, who had also entered the water, was rescued alive but unconscious by the services.

Local police, medical and fire services all attended the incident, while a team of psychologists were also at the scene to assist the victims’ family. The children, who were swept away from the beach by powerful currents, received immediate treatment but died at the scene, according to local media.

Catalonia’s Civil Protection agency initially said two brothers died, but Jose Luis Gargallo, the head of the local police force in Salou, later said it was a brother and sister.

A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of two British children who have died in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.”
