Foodie recommends ‘running’ to one coffee shop after ‘unbelievable’ surprise bag

Too Good To Go is a popular app that allows customers to buy surplus food from local businesses at a discounted price, and one woman couldn’t believe what she picked up from Blank Street

Lots of people like to buy a coffee and maybe a pastry while they’re out on the weekend or getting lunch during the week on their work break. There are plenty of high street chains and local cafés that offer a quick ‘grab and go’ service but many adults are having to cut back on their expenses due to the ongoing cost of living crisis.

More are looking for other ways they can enjoy small treats while saving money and one example is Too Good To Go, an app that allows customers to buy food and drink from local stores, restaurants and cafés at lower prices. Patrons don’t know what products they’ll get as it depends on what hasn’t sold that day.

Cecile Arscott couldn’t believe her luck when she bought a Too Good To Go bag from Blank Street in Edinburgh.

Blank Street is an American coffee house chain that has 90 locations in total across the US and large cities in the UK, such as London, Birmingham and Manchester.

The chain is popular for its specialty graded coffees from around the world and it also sells unique flavoured drinks, as well as a selection of pastries.

Sharing her haul in a video on TikTok, she said: “I am not joking when I say run to Blank Street for your Too Good To Go bag.

“I spent £3.50 on what I’m about to show you and it is…I don’t know if they’re all like this. I cannot believe how much they gave me for £3.50.”

The foodie held up a large bag filled with smaller bags of food. She firstly opened a bag with three chunky cookies with nuts and chocolate.

The next bag had three more cookies with a caramel filling and Cecile said they were “so gooey.”

She bit into one and described it as “like a caramel shortbread cookie.” Continuing to explore the contents of the bag, she pulled out two chocolate cookies and noted that she gave one to her boyfriend so there were originally three.

To add to the growing collection of cookies, Cecile got four more that she thought might be pistachio flavoured.

The last items she bagged were two plain croissants. She concluded: “Not only have I done a good thing for the earth and the environment, I’ve also got 13 cookies and two croissants, what a joke.”

Cecile further expressed her surprise at the Too Good To Go bag in the caption of her TikTok post where she wrote: “I can’t believe I got this for £3.50, insane.”

Cecile’s TikTok video has amassed 223,200 views, 25,100 likes and more than 100 comments, so far.

One curious viewer asked how much all the Blank Street products would have cost at their standard price and Cecile responded: “I think close to £50…”

Another viewer shared their experience of getting a Too Good To Go bag from the coffee chain: “I know, I got 14 pastries/cookies the other day from Blank Street, it’s actually so worth it.”

However, someone else wasn’t as lucky as they commented: “I got one once and got 5 items, next time I got 12 I was shocked, it had 5 cookies.”
