Suspicious sign that gave away killer who pretended wife was alive for five years

Evil killer Donald Graham thought he’d got away with murder after the disappearance of his wealthy lover, Janet Brown, went un-investigated for five years before the truth finally caught up with him

Successful, independent and with a love of travelling the world, Janet Brown’s life was brutally cut short when she was murdered by her boyfriend at the age of 45.

For five years he managed to hide the fact that she was dead and even went to the lengths of writing to her parents pretending to be her and saying that she’d taken a job abroad.

The murder of the wealthy woman by her greedy boyfriend is still shrouded in mystery as police are yet to find her body two decades after the crime. Eventually, the law caught up with Graham and he was jailed for life for Janet’s murder although he has repeatedly claimed he is innocent and doesn’t know where her body is. It comes after a woman, 20, was found dead on bus with 26 iPhones glued to her body.

Graham murdered his wealthy partner to get his hands on her money and even managed to fool detectives into believing she was still alive so cops failed to probe her disappearance until it was too late.

Janet had her own property development business, took on television work as an extra and loved travelling abroad.

She had been in a relationship with married Graham for a number of years, and had been living with her elderly parents Olive and Eric Brown before vanishing in June 2005.

Her disappearance wasn’t discovered until 2010, when an eagle-eyed bank worker alerted police after spotting that signatures on documents relating to Janet’s bank accounts did not quite match-up.

Analysing Janet’s bank accounts, detectives discovered that shortly before the last time anyone heard from her, on June 15, 2005, a large amount of money had been transferred to Graham.

When Janet failed to turn-up for work on June 28, police were asked to go to her home to check she was OK, according to The Chronicle.

Her parents told officers they believed she had extended her holiday because Graham had been writing letters to her elderly parents pretending to be her, telling them she had found a new job abroad.

Sadly her parents died in 2007 and 2008 before Graham, then 60, was eventually arrested in April 2010. Graham denies murder but was convicted after a trial at Newcastle Crown Court, in 2014.

Jurors heard how after killing Janet, Ferrari-driving Graham set about defrauding his victim and her family to the tune of more than £500,000.

He was jailed for life with a minimum of 32 years, meaning he will be in his 90s before he can apply for parole.
