Clean your microwave in less than 5 minutes with no scrubbing using 1 kitchen scrap

If your microwave is in need of a deep clean, there’s a simple trick you can try using one thing you might have in the fridge – and it’ll leave it smelling lovely too

Microwaves are a staple in most kitchens, offering a cost-effective and speedy way to cook or heat up a variety of meals and snacks.

However, we’ve all experienced the frustration of food splattering or bubbling over, resulting in a messy clean-up. If these food stains are left unattended, they can be a nightmare to remove.

But fear not, the experts at Southern Living have revealed an effortless method to clean your microwave without any scrubbing.

Lemons are well-known for their cleaning capabilities around the house, including the microwave. Their natural acidity helps to cut through stubborn grease and grime, leaving behind a refreshing scent.

Similarly, oranges can also be utilised for microwave cleaning. Instead of discarding the peels after enjoying this classic summer snack or smoothie ingredient, use them to make your microwave sparkle again, reports the Express.

How to clean your microwave with an orange

Similar to lemon peels, orange peels can be a very effective kitchen scrap for cleaning. If you put some in a bowl of water and microwave it, the steam generated will freshen up your appliance and make it easier to wipe down.

Katie Dills, Brand President of The Cleaning Authority, suggested: “Instead of scrubbing down your microwave, try filling a bowl with water and adding a few orange peels.”

Place the bowl in the microwave for approximately two minutes, then let it sit inside for another couple of minutes. “The steam will loosen any food remnants and will steam away odours too,” Katie added.

Next, quickly wipe down the interior with a cloth and any stubborn food remnants should easily come off.

Likewise, orange peels can be used to freshen up your fridge fast. Simply place some peels in an open container, and it’ll eliminate any unpleasant odours from your appliance.
