A woman bought a new house and has now shared a surprising encounter she had with her neighbour who walked up to her front door and started shouting for an unexpected reason
Moving into a new house brings excitement, from settling into the space to deciding how to style and furnish each area. Alongside getting accustomed to a new dwelling, you also need to acquaint yourselves with the neighbourhood and local area, including who else lives there.
It’s always lovely to have amicable neighbours who are straightforward to get on with and can be counted on for favours, such as holding onto your package if you’re out when deliveries arrive or letting you borrow household items. On the other side, less friendly neighbours can be irritating and make it less pleasant to see them when leaving your property.
A woman turned to Reddit to share her experience of dealing with a neighbour who told her to move out after she bought a new house.
The user, Norlahna, shared: “I bought a house and never went around to officially introduce myself. I eventually started meeting some neighbours from being outside while doing yard work.
“I consider myself polite, quiet, I don’t have crazy parties (or parties at all), people aren’t coming and going all hours of the night, and I mind my own business.”
“About a year living in my home, a neighbour from across the street (I’d met her husband but never her), marches over and knocks on my door. At first, I didn’t know who she was so decided not to answer.”
The neighbour shouted through the door and asked the new homeowner why she “won’t come to talk to her.”
Norlahna activated her doorbell camera and greeted the woman, explaining that she couldn’t come to the door at that moment and asked how she could help her.
The woman launched into a ‘tirade’ about how she had never met the homeowner, rarely saw lights on in the house, and was ‘concerned that it sits empty most days.’
The Reddit user expressed her surprise, stating: “I’m fairly shocked by this given I’ve NEVER met her nor seen her before and I do, in fact, live in the house I purchased. And I actually live in it every day.
“I ask which house she is from and that sets her over the edge. She yells about being my neighbour and how rude it is that I never introduced myself to her.”
This prompted Norlahna to ask which house the woman lived in, leading to the woman shouting ‘if you don’t know who I am, that’s your fault and you shouldn’t be here, you need to move’.
Following this, she walked away, leaving Norlahna so ‘shaken up’ that she ‘didn’t go out for the rest of the day.’
She mentioned that she had spoken to the woman’s husband on several occasions when she was outside, so when she realised which house the woman came from, the homeowner was ‘pretty shocked and upset.’
The Reddit user added: “The next day I decided to try and smooth things over. She was passive aggressive but thanked me for coming over and stated that’s all she really wanted. And I’ve never seen her in person again.”
She concluded her post by saying: “I don’t plan on moving any time soon, but NFH (neighbours from hell) are truly the worst and I don’t enjoy my yard nor my deck anymore.
“Hopefully when I find the motivation to sell, I’ll be able to find neighbours who aren’t completely insane.”
