British Transport Police have confirmed tonight they arrested a 42-year-old man from Bedfordshire at Luton Airport after they were informed he’d flown in from Faro, Portugal
The far-right political activist Tommy Robinson is believed to have been arrested after he reportedly fled the country following a viral video of him at St Pancras Station next to another man lying unconscious on the floor.
British Transport Police [BTP] say they arrested a 42-year-old man from Bedfordshire at Luton Airport this evening, having been informed he’d boarded an incoming flight from Faro, Portugal. They confirmed it was “in connection to an assault at St Pancras station on 28 July”.
“The man had been wanted for questioning after leaving the country to Tenerife in the early hours of 29 August following the incident at St Pancras,” BTP said.
“He was arrested on suspicion of GBH (Grievous Bodily Harm) and will now be taken to custody for questioning.”
Footage shared on social media last week appeared to show the far-right political activist – real name Stephen-Yaxley Lennon – speaking to witnesses at St Pancras while a man lay on the floor nearby, apparently unconscious. He could be seen in the video looking agitated and left via an escalator, while saying: “You saw him, he came at me.”
A BTS spokeswoman said on July 29 that the suspect in the case flew out of the country in the early hours of that morning.
“Detectives are continuing to work closely to progress the investigation and bring him into custody for questioning,” she said.
