The Lancashire theme park Blackpool Pleaure Beach will allow visitors to bring their furry friends with them on Sundays throughout August in a controversial dog-friendly move
Blackpool Pleasure Beach has introduced a major shake-up to its admission policy, sparking mixed reactions among punters.
For the first time ever, bosses at the theme park have opened their doors to dogs, permitting visitors to bring their four-legged companions along every Sunday throughout August.
The Lancashire hotspot says it aims to ease the burden of guilt felt by pet owners who normally have to abandon their furry pals at home, launching these special canine-friendly sessions which could be rolled out year-round if they prove popular. The ‘Dog’s Day Out’ initiative enables guests to purchase a special Dog Entry Pass alongside their regular ticket, granting their cherished pups access to the attraction each Sunday.
Watering points and endless treats will be on hand, plus numerous areas where families can unwind with their beloved pets, reports the Manchester Evening News.
According to Pleasure Beach, the initiative is crafted to make excursions more inclusive for dog owners who might previously have been deterred from visiting due to concerns about abandoning their animals for extended periods.
Amanda Thompson OBE, CEO of Pleasure Beach Resort, explained: “We know that so many of our guests see their dogs as part of the family, and leaving them behind for the day can be a real worry. Dog-friendly Sundays mean guests no longer have to choose between a great day out and doing what’s best for their pet.
“We’ve always been a family park–family owned, for families–and with this latest step, we can truly say we’re a destination for all.”
While the furry friends won’t be queuing up for the big rides, they’ll get to soak in the park’s vibrant atmosphere, with Pleasure Beach staff ready to ensure everyone, including the pooches, has a top-notch time.

The decision, however, has sparked a debate among park-goers, with reactions ranging from enthusiastic support to outright disapproval.
One naysayer voiced their concern on the Pleasure Beach’s Facebook page: “Crap and pish on the floor, dog poo bags getting hot and sweaty in the bins smelling fresh, oh yes what a joy. Barking yapping dogs fighting. Where do I sign up.”
Another sceptic commented: “Oh hell no, all that noise from the rollercoasters and people screaming? I’m all for more dog-friendly places, but this is such a bad idea.”
Yet, there are those who are barking mad for the idea, with one fan saying: “Our dog is almost 4-years-old and we take her everywhere, including amusement parks and funfairs, you train your dog right and pick up after them, then there’s no issues!”
And another supporter added: “It’s a really good idea! It’s not fair on your dog to leave them at home all day whilst you go out so this means more families can go. Also, for the people saying what happens when dogs attack people and there’s wee and poo everywhere – I really don’t think dog owners with aggressive or reactive dogs will choose to take their dog to Pleasure Beach. If their dog was to behave badly they’d be on CCTV everywhere and surely reprimanded! It would also be a super stressful day for them.”
Dog’s Day Out is set to kick off on Sunday, 10 August, and will continue throughout the month of August.
