Ex-Man Utd star Christian Eriksen offered Premier League lifeline after rejecting Wrexham

Former Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen is still a free agent after leaving Old Trafford earlier this summer and is now a transfer target for Burnley

Christian Eriksen has emerged as an ambitious transfer target for Premier League new boys Burnley after leaving Manchester United as a free agent earlier this summer.

The Denmark international, 33, spent three years at Old Trafford after joining United from Brentford, making 107 appearances in total. And with a wealth of Premier League and international experience under his belt, Eriksen has no shortage of admirers as he weighs up his next move.

Eriksen has attracted offers across the world from clubs who are keen on snapping up the attacking midfielder.

But with Eriksen understood to be keen on staying in western Europe, the option of joining Burnley and remaining in England could appeal to the former Tottenham man.

The Mail report that the Clarets have made contact with Eriksen over a possible deal, which would be regarded as a major coup for Scott Parker’s side.

It’s claimed that Eriksen also has interest in his services from clubs in Germany and Spain which could scupper Burnley’s chances of convincing the playmaker to sign up at Turf Moor.

Eriksen’s agent, Martin Schoots, recently confirmed that his client wants to stay in Europe. He told the same publication: “Christian still wants to play in a first-tier competition and he absolutely wants to stay in Western Europe.

“There are some contacts going on but it has to suit both sides.”

Those comments came in the wake of an audacious approach from Wrexham, who have just been promoted to the Championship. The Red Dragons, owned by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, are in the market for marquee signings after winning three consecutive promotions to reach the second-tier.

Phil Parkinson, Wrexham’s manager, subsequently confirmed that contact had been made with Eriksen but that things had gone no further.

“There was a call, a bit of dialogue over the summer, but it’s not gone any further than that,” he told BBC Sport Wales. “But obviously he’s a majorly talented player and very well respected throughout football.”
