Michael Marin appears to put something in his mouth during court verdict
Michael Marin, an Wall Street trader from Arizona in the US, appeared to live a life of absolute luxury, splashing his cash on Picasso sketches, a Rolls Royce, and even piloting his own plane.
The 53-year-old didn’t just indulge in material possessions, he also used his wealth to scale the world’s highest summits, including Mount Everest.
However, when Marin was arrested and found guilty of insurance fraud, he took drastic measures while still in the courtroom and live on camera – ingesting poison and dying as he was sentenced to 21 years in prison. His shocking final moments were captured by the cameras filming the court case.
Earlier this week, we told how a politician’s son was killed when he was hit by a helicopter in a freak accident.
Marin’s world collapsed when he was convicted of arson after setting fire to a building he had bough for $3.5 million (£2.7million) in 2011.
To the outside world, his life seemed perfect, but behind closed doors, Marin was grappling with severe financial difficulties. He had fallen into debt after purchasing the $3.5 million house, reports the Mirror US.
In desperation, he thought committing arson would solve his problems, hoping to cash in on the insurance money.
Firefighters arrived at the scene after Marin escaped by descending the fire escape, with authorities determining that the fire had been started from four separate flames Marin had lit in different corners of the room.
As soon as he was found guilty on 28 June, 2012, Marin appeared to stifle a yawn by raising his hand to his face. In reality, he was slipping a lethal dose of poison into his mouth that would end his life within minutes.
The deadly substance took effect quickly, causing Marin to convulse as courtroom members rushed to his aid, trying to decipher what was happening.
Marin never regained consciousness and was later declared dead at the hospital. Following an investigation, his death was confirmed as suicide through autopsy.
Detectives discovered the toxic substance in his car. “We assume that Marin made capsules out of this toxic substance before coming to court,” a spokesperson revealed.
The spokesperson also mentioned that Marin had recently purchased the chemical.
Further confirmation of this being a definite suicide came when a spokesperson disclosed that Michael’s son received a delayed email from his late father. The email stated that if things didn’t go well in court, Marin’s wills were in order and his car could be located at a Mesa location.
