Body of woman found tied underwater by concrete dumbbells at Thai tourist spot

A murder probe has been launched in the Phang Nga area of Thailand after a woman’s body was found chained by the neck and weighed down with dumbbells

A woman’s body has been found chained by the neck and tied underwater with two concrete dumbbells at a popular fishing spot in Thailand, in what police are treating as a possible murder.

The chilling discovery was made on Friday when shocked locals spotted the corpse floating near the Ban Tha Yai pier in Phang Nga. Horrified witnesses called police, who raced to the scene alongside rescue workers.

The victim, whose identity, nationality, and address remain a mystery, was thought to be dressed in grey shorts and a brown round-neck T-shirt, according to a local outlet. Officers believe she had been dead for around two days before her body surfaced in the murky water. It comes after a ‘traumatised’ family are stranded at Palma Airport after being told they can’t board a Jet2 flight.

One of the most disturbing details that came with the sudden death is the discovery of a heavy chain which was wrapped tightly around her neck, attached to two concrete dumbbells. It’s thought this was an attempt to keep her hidden beneath the surface.

Despite the effort to sink her, the body eventually floated to shore, where stunned residents made the grim find. Police have sent the body for a full autopsy to determine how she died – and whether she was still alive when dumped in the water.

CCTV from the pier and nearby waterways is now being trawled for clues, while local leaders have been told to check for missing persons matching her description.

In a statement, police lieutenant Pheerawit Chaichanyut: “This is a serious case, and we are treating it as a possible murder. The way the body was weighted down points towards an attempt to conceal it.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact police immediately, particularly those who may have noticed unusual activity near Ban Tha Yai pier in recent days.

It’s not the only grim discovery to be made in the country recently, with investigators in Rayong also uncovering a woman’s body stuffed inside a locked suitcase, also weighted down with dumbbells, floating near a golf course.

The find is scarily similar to the recent discovery in the Tah Yai case and casts a grim shadow over the region as police launched a full murder probe.

Elsewhere, in Pathum Thani, an unsuspecting angler reeled in what he thought was a massive fish – only to discover a decomposed corpse.

And in another chilling incident on the Chao Phraya River, a fisherman’s line snagged a man’s body at Nonthaburi Pier, turning an ordinary night’s fishing into a nightmare.
