UK shoppers are being urged to check their fridges after McCormack Family Farms recalled multiple salad products over fears of Listeria contamination

An urgent warning has been issued to UK shoppers as a popular supermarket salad is recalled over deadly bacteria fears.

Brit households are being told to check their fridges now after a major health alert was issued over bags of salad which may have been contaminated.

McCormack Family Farms pulled a raft of its spinach, rocket, and mixed leaf products from supermarket shelves after tests revealed possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes – a bug that can cause serious illness, especially in pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. It comes after reports of a dad’s desperate phone call moments before explosion kills him and his daughters.

The recall, which was first announced earlier this month, has now been dramatically expanded to cover more products, sizes, and batch dates.

The recall includes McCormack Family Farms Spinach / Baby Leaves in 500g packs, covering all date codes. It also includes Spinach / Baby Leaves in 100g packs with batch codes JC199, JC200, JC202, JC203, JC205 and JC207, and best before dates of 25/07/2025, 26/07/2025, 27/07/2025, 28/07/2025, 29/07/2025, 30/07/2025, 01/08/2025 and 03/08/2025.

Spinach / Baby Leaves in 200g packs are affected if they have batch codes JC199, JC200, JC202, JC203, JC205, JC206 or JC207, with best before dates ranging from 25/07/2025 to 04/08/2025.

The recall also applies to Mixed Leaves in 75g packs with batch codes JC199, JC202, JC204 and JC205. Energise Super Mix in 100g packs is included if it has batch codes JC199, JC203 or JC205, and best before dates of 28/07/2025, 29/07/2025, 30/07/2025 or 03/08/2025.

Irish Spinach Leaves in 250g packs are also affected, with all date codes included. Rocket Leaves in 75g packs are part of the recall if they have batch codes JC204 or JC206.

Finally, Family Pack Lettuce in 200g packs are included in the recall for all date codes. Point-of-sale warning notices will be put up in all stores stocking these products, explaining the risk and what customers should do.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a strong alert, warning: “Do not eat these products. Return them to the store where you bought them for a full refund.”

Listeria can cause flu-like symptoms such as high temperature, chills, muscle aches, diarrhoea and sickness. In severe cases, it can lead to serious complications, including meningitis.

If you have any of these salad bags at home, you are being told to bin them immediately, otherwise you risk getting ill, or take them back for your money back.
