‘I tried a military-style boot camp to lose weight – it was brutal but worth it’

By staff10 August 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Sese Or, 29, had piled on the pounds after a bodybuilding competition and was looking for a fresh start, but she didn’t use any quick fixes to lose nearly 8lbs in less than a fortnight

A woman has revealed how she dropped nearly 8lbs in less than a fortnight – without turning to trendy ‘skinny jabs’ or extreme diets. Sin Yee Or – known as Sese – instead signed up for an intensive weight loss boot camp where daily routines felt more like “military training” than a peaceful wellness retreat.

The 29-year-old had previously competed in a bodybuilding competition, slashing her body fat percentage to boost muscle definition. After the contest, though, she fell into a cycle of binge eating and gained 30lbs within months.

Looking for a new beginning, Sese found the boot camp online and registered without telling friends or family. “I dragged my suitcase there alone – I thought, ‘Why not give it a shot?’,” Sese told NeedToKnow.

“The second day, I was in so much pain I thought I wouldn’t make it. My whole body was sore from the workouts. It felt like my muscles were screaming.

“But by the end, I felt like a new person. More focused, energised, and finally happy with myself again.”

Sese stayed at the centre for 13 days – training intensively for 11 of those days whilst taking two rest breaks. The programme cost her roughly £270 for four weeks, though she left early after her weight plummeted from 147.7lbs to 139.7lbs – achieving an ideal weight for her frame.

The timetable proved gruelling, including three workout sessions daily: early morning cardio work, afternoon strength training and evening spinning classes. Nutrition was similarly regulated, with meals comprising primarily vegetables alongside minimal protein portions.

The camp offered participants a single day of rest each week, and while a few skipped workouts or indulged in secret snacks, the majority remained committed. Sese discovered an unexpected sense of tranquillity amidst the rigorous regime. She shared: “There were no distractions.

“No late-night snacking, no pressure to socialise, no FOMO [fear of missing out]. I even organised my messy computer desktop and finally did filing I’d put off for months.

“I used to stay up all night, eat badly and feel terrible about myself. At the camp, I slept well, ate clean and had a proper routine.

“It was like hitting reset on my body and mind. I left feeling lighter, clearer and way more positive about myself.”

Content with her progress, Sese is already eyeing up her next boot camp adventure, this time with a scenic beach backdrop. Her intense journey sparked immediate reactions online.

“So intense it looks like prison life. Good luck surviving it,” commented one user. Another expressed their intrigue: “I really want to try this but it also looks terrifying”.

“Can you share more details please? Thank you,” enquired one curious follower. “Would you be able to introduce it to us?” another chimed in.

David added: “Where is it? How much for a month?”

Sese’s transformative stint at the camp began on the evening of 18 May and concluded on the morning of 31 May, located in Humen, Dongguan, China.
