A man was seen running through a quiet neighbourhood “covered in blood and screaming for help” as two people have been arrested by police.

Emergency services were called to Sandbrook Way in Ainsdale following the incident in the early hours of August 12. Merseyside Police said they received reports of a man suffering a small puncture wound to his shoulder at 1.35am.

He was rushed to hospital where he remains in a stable condition. And following inquiries, a 41-year-old man of no fixed abode along with a 54-year-old woman from Ainsdale have both been arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent.

The man was also arrested for criminal damage and the pair remain in custody. A crime scene remained in place during Tuesday with three houses cordoned off – one on Pinfold Lane close to Sandbrook Way, one on Bowness Avenue and another on Windermere Crescent. Blood remained on the property on Bowness Avenue.

One neighbour, who was awake at the time of the incident and lives on Bowness Avenue, told the Liverpool Echo how she heard a loud noise and then looking out of the window she saw a man bleeding as he went down the road and shouting for help.

“I was awake and it was dead quiet then I just heard a load of noise coming from the end of the road,” she said. “I looked out the window and saw a man topless and covered in blood screaming for help.

“He saw the window was open and knocked on the door before going next door and going to the house across the road.”

She said the incident took place around 1.30am before emergency services descended on the quiet estate.

Another neighbour similarly said that they were woken by the noise. “He woke us up and then next thing we knew police were on the street. They have been here all day and had the dogs out earlier,” they said.

One other man said: “At around 2am we saw there was a lot of police activity. The police just descended on the road and there was an ambulance at the scene too. The police are still here now. There was blood on a property on Pinfold Lane.”

Merseyside Police have said appealed to the public for information about the incident, you can call 101 or DM @MerPolCC on social media, quoting reference number 25000664273. Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
