‘My mum found £1 pair of jeans worth £52 and you can do same thing’

By staff17 August 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Second-hand clothing shopping is a really fun way to find bargains which you may still find in the shop with a much higher price tag, and that’s what one woman did in a rummage bucket

A woman shared you can save a fortune if you go to car boot sales and have a hunt in their rummage buckets. Addressing a comment that was criticising her for buying second-hand clothes, Becky, who posts on TikTok as @beckysbazaar, pointed out she “obviously washes” the items she buys before wearing them. She also shared you can save a fortune if you look in places you wouldn’t normally.

Becky said: “Someone commented on my video saying they think it’s crazy disgusting that I buy and wear second-hand clothes. Do you know what else is crazy, though? The fact that my mum found these River Island jeans in a rummage bucket at a car boot sale.”

She showed a video of her mum pulling out the lovely pair of jeans, sharing she managed to bag them for just £1.

Becky said the “same day” they decided to pop into River Island “across the road” from where the car boot sale was.

“I spotted the exact same pair of jeans, okay? The exact same pair. And they had a price tag on them for £52,” she gushed.

Becky said her mum looks “incredible” in the jeans, and she saved a whopping £51 by being thrifty at the car boot sale.

In the comments, someone pointed out it’s “no different to buying on Vinted,” saying they “love a car boot sale”.

“Just wash them. The same people sleep on hotel sheets that others have slept in, then washed,” someone pointed out, wondering whether the haters won’t stay at hotels because of this.

Some women said “the majority” of their “clothes are second-hand”.

However, some people said they would “never wear anything second-hand”. Someone said: “Wearing someone’s old clothes is just horrible”.

Another pointed out “a lot of the time the clothes have only been worn maximum once”.

Why can car boot sale shopping be fun?

Shopping at car boot sales and finding bargains can be a highly rewarding experience for several reasons. Firstly, car boot sales offer a unique opportunity to discover a wide variety of items at much lower prices than you would typically find in regular shops.

Sellers are often individuals looking to declutter their homes, so they are usually willing to negotiate and offer goods at affordable rates. This means you can often pick up quality items – such as clothes, books, toys, antiques, or even electronics – for a fraction of their original price.

Another advantage is the thrill of the hunt. Car boot sales are unpredictable, and you never quite know what treasures you might come across.

In addition, shopping at car boot sales is environmentally friendly. By purchasing second-hand goods, you are helping to reduce waste and promote recycling. This sustainable approach not only saves you money but also benefits the planet by giving items a second life instead of contributing to landfills.

Social interaction is another positive aspect. Car boot sales are community events where you can meet new people, chat with sellers, and even learn the stories behind certain items. This creates a friendly, local atmosphere that you don’t often find in big retail environments.
