Mum orders £5 decoration from Temu and is ‘amused and confused’ by what turns up

By staff18 August 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Diana Huynh, 37, ordered a £5 decoration from online marketplace Temu to hang on her door for her baby shower – but was left in stitches when it arrived in the post

A mum wanted to bag some bargains for her baby shower, so she headed to budget-friendly website Temu to have a look around. The Chinese online marketplace is known for offering majorly discounted goods – but you’ll need to read the small print before buying!

Diana Huynh learnt this the hard way when she paid $9.63 (£5.72) for a decoration she hoped to hang up in her home on her big day. It appeared to be a charming bow that she could use to adorn her door. However, the product that arrived was very different.

The 37-year-old realised it wasn’t a three-dimensional ribbon with lots of volume and a satin-like texture. It was actually a flat polyester sheet folded up and printed with an image of a door and bow.

Diana, from Toronto, Canada, immediately realised this was more of a miscommunication moment than a Temu shipping mistake. She said: “It honestly looked very convincing.

“I saw that the image did have holes in the corner for hanging, but I genuinely thought it was a bow to hang on a door.

“I was initially very confused, but had a laugh about it. I immediately knew it was a ‘lost in translation’ thing.”

Thankfully, Diana – along with her friends and family – were able to see the funny side of the shopping fail. And when she posted about it on TikTok, people were equally as amused.

A video of Diana sharing her story has racked up more than 77,000 likes and plenty of comments.

One person pointed out: “To be honest they showed measurements of the whole door.” Another quipped: “Why I check reviews when ordering.”

A third remarked: “Girl the door has no doorknob and it had a clock on it.” However, others confessed they’d had similar experiences in the past.

One shopper confessed: “Omg this happened to me, same exact thing.”

Despite the mishap, Diana hasn’t let the experience deter her from the site. She did end up binning the polyester decoration though!

In response to the online shopping gaffe, a spokesman for Temu stated: “We had already removed the item from our platform prior to your message, as part of our ongoing monitoring efforts.

“We require all sellers to ensure their products accurately match the descriptions in their listings.

“Customers are covered by our 90-day money-back guarantee for items that are not as described. Our customer service team is available 24/7 to help with any post-sale concerns.”
