Real Madrid issue emphatic Rodrygo statement after Arsenal transfer swap offer

By staff19 August 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso has spoken out on Rodrygo’s position in the Spanish capital after a summer of speculation over the Brazilian with the forward uncertain of a role this season

Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso is happy with Rodrygo’s progress this summer as he prepares for his first La Liga match in charge of Los Blancos. The Brazilian winger remains in the Spanish capital after speculation over a move since Alonso’s arrival.

Earlier this month, Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal were all linked with the forward’s signature. Real Madrid are said to have been open to Rodrygo’s exit without being proactive in searching for a new club for the two-time Champions League winner.

The 24-year-old did not appear at the forefront of Alonso’s plans after he featured from the start just once during the team’s Club World Cup campaign. The Spaniard has a wealth of options including Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham.

While Los Blancos have appeared content to keep Rodrygo, their interest in William Saliba is said to have see them make sensational swap deal offer. The Gunners are keen to add a winger and Marca claim Real tried to tempt them into a move having previously weighed up signing Saliba next summer or for free in 2027.

For the moment, Rodrygo remains at Alonso’s disposal with the club’s season to get underway against Osasuna on Tuesday evening. The former Bayern Munich and Liverpool midfielder reckons his charge is in good nick despite this summer’s uncertainty.

“There are a lot of rumours this summer,” Alonso said previewing his team’s first match of the season. “He’s looks good to me.

“I’m counting on everyone, and I want them to be committed to the team and be at 100%. That’s what worries me and what’s occupying me right now.”t

The Real Madrid head coach has no shortage of options, and new signing Franco Mastantuono, 18, could yet be among those that ensures minutes are difficult to come by for Rodrygo. Alonso has been very impressed by the youngster since his arrival.

“The first time I spoke to him, I was very surprised by his personality,” the Spaniard said. “He was still 17 years old and a very self-confident man.

“He wasn’t afraid of taking the step to come to Real Madrid. You can see his maturity, his desire, his quality. He’s going to integrate into the team very quickly.

“He could get minutes tomorrow. He’ll bring quality, energy, he’s committed defensively, and he has good momentum. I’ve seen that he has that drive and that Argentine competitive spirit. He’s good with the final pass. He’s at a very good level.”
