A man has died after a horror fall from scaffolding onto a city street.
Police said they were alerted to reports of the incident on Dublin Street in Edinburgh city centre at around 3pm yesterday. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A blue forensic tent and police personnel in white suits could on the pavement nearby as the street was locked down. Police Scotland confirmed reports of a man falling on the street, and said officers remained in attendance throughout the day.
A spokesperson added that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, and that the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been informed.

One eyewitness who passed the scene yesterday evening told Edinburgh Evening News: “A tent has been set up in the middle of the pavement and there are men in white suits and quite a lot of police there now. They don’t seem to be going into any buildings or anything like that.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3pm on Tuesday August 19, we received a report that a man had fallen on Dublin Street, Edinburgh.
“Emergency services attended and a man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“There are no suspicious circumstances.
“The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been informed and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”
The HSE has been approached for comment.
According to data from the HSE released in June, falls from height are the leading cause of workplace fatalities in the UK, representing of a quarter of all worker deaths.
A total of 35 people died in workplace injuries related to falls from height in the period spanning April 2024 to March 2025.
