Horror moment ‘killer’ dogs attack as residents hit out over string of maulings

Out-of-control aggressive dogs have been terrorising an area of Sydney, Australia, with a spate of attacks on pets and also serious injuries to people with some areas now avoided by families

A spate of savage dog attacks has rocked a neighbourhood with locals fearing a child could be killed next.

Large dogs were filmed roaming off the lead in a residential area of Redfern, Sydney, before one attack where they went for a pet whose owner was forced to grab the dog and lift it into the air. At the same time the dogs run around a scared child in the middle of the road before other members of the public step in.

And residents in Redfern and Waterloo in the Australian city say that at least one dog has been killed in recent months as well as other being injured and people also hurt.

A small dog was killed on June 7 with the aggressor described as looking like an American staffy, and it was also claimed on social media that the same dog had gone for another pet shortly beforehand.

In another incident on Easter Sunday, April 20, two large brown dogs injured several other pets. An owner reportedly thought that her dog was going to die claiming there was “blood everywhere”, and while she had reported the incident to the police, the dogs could not be traced.

The situation has got so bad that some local people with small children are reportedly avoiding parks and certain streets due to the danger from the animals.

In a further dog attack, owner Bianca Santo said she was walking in Redfern park with her assistance dog Ahnala when she claimed a pitbull attacked.

She told news.com.au: “The dog was huge, massive … it was so fast. I couldn’t grab her so I just tried to lay on top of her. The pit bull had her near the throat ripping and tearing, it was just horrendous.

“I punched the dog in the face, pulled its tail and had my face close to its face as it was tearing Ahnala’s chest open. I was screaming for help for 20 minutes, but nobody came. I was so scared of my dog dying, and it could have turned at any second and got me too.”

Ms Santo said that her dog, a staffy cross, suffered horrific injuries and she had to pay more than £3,000 in vet bills. “There was blood everywhere. She was bleeding all over the place,” Ms Santo said. After that incident the pitbull was identified and given a dangerous dog order meaning it has to be muzzled.

Ms Santo continued: “Everyone in Redfern is scared. That dog is going to kill someone one day, maybe a kid, and nobody will do anything about it. They don’t put dogs down anymore apparently, but it is really dangerous. I begged the council worker to do something, but they closed the case.”

Meanwhile, Terry another resident told how his dog Marco also suffered horrific injuries in attack as did the pet sitter, who was looking after the dog at the time. In fact, Terry believes the pet sitter saved his dog’s life and added that the vet bill for Marco reached nearly £7,000.

“How long until it’s someone’s kid? This has happened more than once,” said Terry. “The cops have had the chance to do something, the council don’t have the power – that’s what they tell me, anyway – but the cops didn’t care. I had to force them to take my statement … and was told to stop emailing them as it was no longer a police matter. They didn’t do anything.”

While one resident Chloe said her pet was attacked by a large American staffy which was then joined by five more and she thought her dog was going to die. As she tried to leave with her dog one of the staffies locked onto her foot and she received a 14cm wound that went through to the bone.
