Loved ones of Katie Price are said to have been “really surprised” by her reaction to a video of her waving a wad of cash while bankrupt being released. The footage was released by the reality TV star’s ex-husband Alex Reid just days ago.
Alex, now 50, who separated from Katie, now 47, in 2011 after getting married the previous year, said that “the truth will now be heard”. His decision to release the video is said to have surprised his ex-wife, who has been bankrupt twice.
It’s claimed that Katie was “blindsided” by the release of the footage recently but won’t be “coming out all guns blazing” against Alex. It’s alleged that the former glamour model is instead “biding her time” and has taken legal advice.
A source told the Sun that Katie’s inner circle were “really surprised” over “how calm” she’s been over the situation. They suggested to the outlet that her second husband Alex’s “stunt” would have sent most people into a “very dark place”.
They said: “This isn’t the first time Kate’s ex husbands and partners have ganged up on her, but the last time it happened, it drove her over the edge and we were all seriously worried about her.” The source said she is in a “completely different place” this time though.
The source said: “Her feeling is, if Alex Reid wants to create a drama to get himself some attention, then good for him.” They added that she was “blindsided” by Alex releasing the video and “had no idea it was coming,” but added that she’s refusing to “stoop to his level” like she may have done previously “by coming out all guns blazing”.
Katie, according to the source, is in “no rush” to comment publicly on this “attempt to bring her down”. The source said that she is doing the “sensible thing” instead, having reportedly taken legal advice and now “biding her time”.
They said: “She is aware that Alex has threatened to say more about her in the coming days and weeks, but she has been here before many times and is taking it in her stride.” They said that Katie will “have her say” in the future but not yet.
The comments come following the release of the video. In it, Katie is seen lounging on a couch as she was “enjoying counting” the pile of money in front of her, with her saying: “There’s loads here … I’m just sorting it out.”
Katie, who was bankrupted twice over debts totalling more than £3m, was asked by daughter Princess Andre if she would help pay her school fees and those of her other child with ex-husband Peter Andre. Before lifting a middle finger, Katie responded: “Your dad can sit on that.” She continued: “Does he go on about it a lot? Well it’s tough because I’m in bankruptcy to next May now.” She also refers to a property – “my London flat” – which fans believe is the property allocated to Peter as part of their divorce settlement.
The Mirror understands that the one minute and 38 second video, believed to have been filmed in late 2020, has been sent to Katie’s bankruptcy trustee who continues to “seek realisations from various third parties”.
The footage was shared this week by Alex. Along with the leaked footage, he said in a statement: “Over the years you have seen countless stories by Katie Price directed at me, Peter, Keiran and others. Today I want to be clear. I am spearheading a campaign to expose the truth. This isn’t about gossip but about evidence. It’s not about rumour, it’s about reality. After years of silence, the time has finally come to reveal all.”
Following the release of the video, Katie released a statement of her own, explaining that the cash in the video didn’t belong to her. A representative for Katie said: “This is a video that was shared with Katie’s Trustee in Bankruptcy several months ago and Katie has fully complied with the Trustee’s investigations into the same.”
They added: “The cash featured did not belong to Katie and the property referred to was dealt with in the financial settlement proceedings arising out of Katie’s divorce from Peter Andre. Katie’s Trustee in Bankruptcy is aware of the property and has undoubtedly investigated whether the same ought to be comprised in the bankruptcy estate.”
Katie was bankrupted twice, first in 2019 over debts totalling £3.5m, including £970,639 to HMRC and then again last March over a second £761,994 unpaid HMRC demand for money earned while she was already bankrupt. Creditors include Alex Reid who, as reported at the time, won a judgement against Katie in 2019 for “distributing private information – some of it of a sexual nature”, which he claimed violated his right to privacy.
A spokesperson for Alex told the Mirror in response to this story: “Alex Reid has been subjected to years of baseless, misleading, and dishonest claims that have painted a false picture of who he is. These manufactured narratives have caused lasting harm, and we are no longer prepared to stay silent.
“We are exercising our right to reply and we do so with absolute clarity. Enough is enough. Those who have spread and sustained these falsehoods must finally accept responsibility and be held accountable for the damage they have caused.
“Alex has shown extraordinary resilience in the face of relentless attacks, but every person has a limit. That limit has now been crossed. The time for accountability has come, this is about the truth and nothing more, the truth will no longer be ignored.”
