Liverpool transfer news: Marc Guehi tip revealed as Crystal Palace eye replacement

By staff22 August 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Liverpool made a winning start to their Premier League title defence but Arne Slot’s team might not quite be done in the transfer market with some key targets remaining

Liverpool travel to Newcastle on Monday night hoping to have made some progress on their transfer targets. One of those targets is Alexander Isak, who remains in a war of words with the Magpies at the time of writing, and his involvement hangs in the balance.

Isak made mention of broken promises in an explosive social media statement on Tuesday. One man who could be closer to an Anfield switch, however, is Marc Guehi.

Liverpool’s need for a new centre-back became more acute when some less-than-perfect defending almost allowed Bournemouth to snatch a point on the opening day of the season. Late goals from Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool all three points, but Arne Slot recognised what the scare might mean for the Reds’ title hopes.

Giovanni Leoni has arrived from Parma for £26million, but he might not be the last centre-back to join. Guehi’s future may rest on how much Crystal Palace want for their captain, who is out of contract in June.

We’re also expecting some more Liverpool exits between now and September 1, after Ben Gannon-Doak’s Bournemouth switch. Here, Mirror Football brings you the latest from around Anfield.

Liverpool’s Guehi plan

Liverpool could step up their pursuit for Marc Guehi in between the two legs of Crystal Palace’s Conference League play-off, according to Sky Sports. Guehi is not expected to sign a contract renewal at Selhurst Park, so it’s now about whether Palace cash in now or lose him on a free next summer.

There’s also the distraction of the Eberechi Eze transfer saga. The playmaker is set to join Arsenal after choosing them over Tottenham, with his medical set for Friday.

Palace have been scouring the market for new faces, having been left in the frustrating position of potentially losing two key men just days into the new season. Now it is down to Liverpool to test the Eagles’ resolve

Palace eye replacement

Jakub Kiwior has emerged as a potential replacemet for Guehi at Selhurst Park. The Arsenal defender has been linked with a move which reports suggest would be separate to the deal sending Eze the other way.

Polish international Kiwior joined Arsenal from Spezia in January 2023 and has made 44 Premier League appeatances for the club. He may opt to leave North London this summer, though, after the arrival of Cristhian Mosquera raised fresh questions about his longer-term future.

There has been interest from Italy, while Porto have looked at bringing in Kiwior on loan with an option or obligation to buy next summer. If the defender does leave for Palace, though, it could be good news for Liverpool in their Guehi chase.

Marseille want Tsimikas

Kostas Tsimikas is one of a number of left-back options being eyed by Marseille, according to reports in France. The Liverpool defender has dropped down the pecking order after the arrival of Milos Kerkez, and may have played his final game at Anfield.

The Greek defender isn’t the only option for L’OM, though. The French club are also keen on West Ham’s Emerson, who played in Ligue 1 for Lyon before joining the Hammers.

Nottingham Forest have also been linked with Tsimikas, who joined Liverpool in 2020 but has been unable to dislodge Andy Robertson at left-back. He played 18 times in the league last season, but only nine of those appearances were starts.
