People needing money management support could receive up to £749 monthly from DWP

The DWP’s Personal Independence Payment calculation is more crucial than the conditions themselves

If you need help managing your money, you could be eligible for up to £749 a month from Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

Personal Independence Payments (PIP) can provide extra monetary support for a broad spectrum of conditions.

However, it’s the calculation of these payments that is more pivotal than the conditions themselves. This is due to the fact that PIP assessments are not based on any single specific condition, but rather on how significantly that condition affects you.

During a PIP assessment, the level of help you need to engage in certain activities will aid in determining your PIP amount. Citizens Advice recommends that if you require assistance with any of the following due to a condition, you should contemplate applying for PIP:

  • Managing your money
  • Communicating with other people
  • Mixing with others
  • Reading and understanding written information
  • Preparing and cooking food
  • Dressing and undressing
  • Eating and drinking
  • Washing and bathing
  • Planning a journey or following a route
  • Moving around
  • Managing your treatments
  • Managing toilet needs or incontinence

How the DWP pays PIP

PIP is typically paid every four weeks unless you are terminally ill, in which case it is paid weekly. It will be deposited directly into your bank, building society or credit union account.

PIP payment rate

An assessment will be required to ascertain the level of financial aid you will receive and your rate will be regularly reviewed to ensure you are receiving the appropriate support.

PIP consists of two components: daily living and mobility. Whether you receive one or both of these and the amount you might get depends on how severely your condition impacts you.

You will be paid the following amounts per week, depending on your circumstances:.

Daily living

  • Standard rate: £73.90
  • Enhanced rate: £110.40

Mobility

  • Standard rate: £29.20
  • Enhanced rate: £77.05

Making a PIP claim

You can make a new claim by contacting the DWP. You will find all the information you need to apply on the GOV.UK website here. Before you call, you will need:

  • your contact details
  • your bank or building society account number and sort code
  • your date of birth
  • dates and addresses for any time you’ve spent abroad, in a care home or hospital
  • your doctor or health worker’s name, address and telephone number
  • your National Insurance number – this is on letters about tax, pensions and benefits
