Protesters in Israel were seen blocking highways and burning tires as they demanded Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his security cabinet commit to meaningful ceasefire talks
Protesters in Israel have demanded freedom for the remaining hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.
In dramatic scenes, demonstrators were seen blocking highways and burning tires in what many in Israel are calling a “day of disruption”. Banners and Israeli flags were waved outside the US Embassy in Tel Aviv.
Responding to a call from Israel’s Hostages and Missing Families Forum for a “National Day of Struggle,” protesters waved banners that read “Hostage Deal Now.” The relatives of hostages said they hope sustained public pressure can push Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his security cabinet to commit to meaningful ceasefire talks.
Israel has managed to rescue only eight hostages alive since the war on Gaza triggered by the events of October 7, 2023, which saw some 251 people captured. Fifty remain in Gaza, and Israeli officials believe around 20 are still alive.
