Arsenal transfer news: Piero Hincapie negotiations update as Gunners lodge defender bid

Arsenal have been busy in the summer transfer window and have been rewarded with a fast start to the Premier League season but there is still time to complete more deals

Arsenal’s start to the Premier League season couldn’t have gone much better results-wise, but there are still some things to iron out before transfer deadline day. Thankfully for the Gunners, injury scares for Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard don’t look to be too serious, but there’s still work to do.

New sporting director Andrea Berta has been a busy man this summer. Eberechi Eze became the seventh senior signing of the window, following Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, Martin Zubimendi, Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke and Cristhian Mosquera to the Emirates Stadium.

We have also seen a fair few leave North London. Takehiro Tomiyasu and Thomas Partey were among those released, while Karl Hein has left on loan and Nuno Tavares and Marquinhos have completed permanent moves away.

There are still a few more players who could fetch a fee, and that could have some bearing on how many more arrivals make it along. Fabio Vieira’s exit has been mooted all summer long, but he isn’t the only one.

Hincapie asking price concern

Arsenal aren’t giving up on Piero Hincapie, but they appear to be at odds with Bayer Leverkusen when it comes to a fee for the defender. Leverkusen are holding out for around £55m – the value of his release clause – but The Athletic report that the Gunners remain keen to bring that sum down.

Further sales could make it easier for Arsenal to find an agreement with the German club. In addition to Stuttgart-linked Fabio Vieira, there’s a chance the likes of Reiss Nelson, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior could all leave for the right price.

Leverkusen are not desperate to sell, having already lost a number of senior stars this summer. Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Jonathan Tah are among the members of the 2023-24 title winning side to already move on.

Board to meet over Kiwior deal

Arsenal’s board were preparing to meet on Tuesday to determine what lies ahea for Jakub Kiwior. The defender is in high demand, with interest from England, Portugal and Italy.

Reports on the continent over the last few days have suggested Porto is the most likely destination. A loan with an obligation to buy has been touted.

Crystal Palace and AC Milan are the other clubs linked with the Pole, who is after regular first team football in a World Cup year. Arsenal would likely be able to turn a profit on the £17m they paid to sign him from Spezia in 2023.

Arsenal in Martinez bid

Arsenal are exploring a cut-price move for Arnau Martinez, according to Foot Mercato (via GFFN). The right-back, who played against the Gunners for Girona in last season’s Champions League, could be available for as little as £8.6m.

Despite being just 22 years old, Martinez captained Girona on multiple occasions last term. He started the first game of the new season against Rayo Vallecano but was an unused sub as Girona lost 5-0 to Villarreal over the weekend.

Martinez might not be the only member of Girona’s back line to move to the Premier League this summer. At the time of writing, centre-back Ladislav Krejci is on the verge of a Wolves switch.
