Shoppers have shared their thoughts after Maltesers released two new flavours of the well-loved chocolate – but some people have spotted an issue they claim to have noticed

Chocolate lovers have been left scratching their heads after spotting two ‘new’ favours of Maltesers on a store shelves. While some welcomed the ‘new’ additions, others shared their confusion and questioned whether there’s actually anything new in the product. The new flavours, shared on @newfoodsuk on Instagram, include honeycomb and raspberry.

On sale in B&M for £2.99, one user pointed out how Maltesers’ original flavour has ‘always been honeycomb’, saying: “They’re having a laugh now. ‘Honeycomb’. They’ve always been honeycomb, unless they have actual honey in them.” Another user agreed: “Aren’t they honeycomb anyway? So that’s the standard flavour and the other is a new one…”

Describing their original Maltesers product, a statement reads: “Maltesers are irresistibly delicious honeycomb spheres covered in a creamy layer of milk chocolate.

“These poppable bite-sized pieces are perfect when you’re looking for a sweet treat and are great for sharing with family and friends.”

Over the years, Maltesers have produced various flavours including dark chocolate, extra chocolate, white chocolate, and now raspberry and honeycomb.

Describing their honeycomb product, a description reads: “Indulge your taste buds in the delicious delight of Maltesers Honeycomb Flavour.

“With each bite you can taste the classic crisp malt centre covered in a smooth milk chocolate with the sweet golden taste of honeycomb.

“Maltesers Honeycomb is a crowd-pleaser and is the perfect treat to share with your friends!”

While their new raspberry flavour has been described as: “Maltesers Raspberry adds a new twist to your favourite treat!

“With each bite you can taste the irresistible flavour of our raspberry flavoured milk chocolate, along with our classic crisp malt centres. Maltesers Raspberry is the perfect decadent treat for you and your friends.”

Commenting on the post, one more user said: “Did you get them? Think when we tried the raspberry ones ages ago we weren’t fans.. I’m getting soapy memories.”

Another user added: “Ruining it now, wasn’t keen on the white chocolate ones either.”

However, a user on New Foods UK’s Facebook page shared their excitement for the new flavours, saying: “Is this for real because if so, I need them in my life ASAP.”

Another user added: “The honeycomb ones would be banging.”

One more said: “Get me these both ASAP.”

Created by Forrest Mars Sr. in 1936, the first packet of Maltesers were sold the following year, advertised as ‘energy balls’.

Their website continues: “In 1954, Maltesers published advertisements premiering the brand’s latest tagline: ‘More to Munch.’

“In 2003, White Maltesers were launched as a Seasonal Limited edition. They quickly became a crowd-favourite, prompting our decision to make them available all year round.

“In 2013, we had shoppers asking: block or ball? And Maltesers had the answer: both.

“With the introduction of Maltesers Teasers, we successfully created fun new ways to enjoy the great taste of our nationwide favourite chocolate.

“Every year in the UK, we sell a total of 187 million Maltesers Treats, which comes out to six products every second!”
