Travis Kelce gave an unexpected answer when asked whether he would marry Katy Perry or Taylor Swift. Kelce and Swift confirmed their engagement in an Instagram post earlier this week, with the Love Story singer and Kansas City Chiefs player declaring: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
However, things could have worked out very differently, according to a 2016 interview featuring the NFL player which has resurfaced following the news. The NFL player spoke of his now-fiancée and two other singers years before he met The Tortured Poets Department star, and fans are astounded to hear what he had to say.
Fans are now joking Swift could use the interview to win any argument the couple may have in future. Kelce was asked who he would “kiss, marry, [or] kill” out of a list including Ariana Grande, Swift, and Perry, and he gave a surprising answer.
He said: “That’s messed up. I don’t want to kill any of them. Ariana, I’d kill. Unfortunately, I love you, but you’re gone. And then Taylor Swift would be the kiss, and Katy Perry would be marry.”
Fans have said the verdict is ironic given the couple’s recent engagement quite ironic given Kelce and Swift’s engagement. Viewers were thrilled to see the clip appear again on TikTok and many were quick to comment.
One fan wrote: “I would bring this up at ever argument if I was Taylor.” Another joked: “I mean, at least he didn’t say kill.” A third shared: “To be fair though, at this point he didn’t know Taylor Swift.”
Others are speculating a line from Swift’s song, So High School, is related to the interview. The song features the line “…Are you gonna marry, kiss, or kill me? (Kill me).”
One fan speculated: “Wait, wait, wait, did Taylor get the line ‘are you gonna marry, kiss, or kill me?’ from this interview?” Another added: “And then she literally wrote this interview into a song.”
A third joked: “Katy Perry has been very quiet since their engagement was announced…”
Swifties across the globe were thrilled by the announcement of the pair’s engagement, as they all reacted with surprise at the post confirming it.
However, the caption of the joint post by Swift and her NFL player fiancé – who are believed to have started dating in the summer of 2023 – has left people in stitches.
Some have even declared it may be the the worst Instagram caption in history. Swift’s Instagram upload is captioned: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
While some were clearly moved by the post, others found it to be one of the more grating things Swift has written on social media in recent years.
