UK forecast shows 14 counties to miss out on final 26C summer blast – full list

The UK forecast show that some parts of the country could see temperatures climb up to 26C next week before cool and rainy conditions start hitting the UK as autumn arrives

England could experience one final blast of warm weather next week as summer comes to an end and cooler conditions are on the way.

Weather maps show that temperatures could hit 26C next week before storms and hail head towards the country. According to WXCharts, which uses MetDesk data, warm weather will mainly be focused on southern areas, as counties north of the Midlands are set to miss out.

Jo Farrow, from Netweather TV, said: “After such a lot of dry, sunny and warm to hot weather, the end of August is rather mixed. The air flow feels fresher now. However, in any sunshine, there is still a good deal of warmth lifting temperatures into the low 20sC for the middle of the week.

“There will be a scattering of showers from the west and bands of rain bringing heavier falls with darkening skies. As one of these passes by, the temperatures will fall. Pinning down the details of these, in terms of timings, remains tricky. It will be worth keeping an eye on the Netweather Radar for the individual showers and the progress of any rainbands as they move eastwards.”

As reported by Birmingham Live, the 14 counties set to miss out on next week’s warm conditions are: West Yorkshire, East Riding of Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Cumberland, Westmorland, Durham, Cumbria, Northumberland, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Cheshire, parts of Lincolnshire, and Merseyside. It comes as the Met Office warned in its long-range forecast that some areas could experience “changeable and unsettled weather conditions” caused by dominating low pressure systems over the first 10 days of September.

The forecast from Thursday, September 2 to Thursday, September 11 reads: “Changeable and unsettled weather conditions are expected across the UK during this period with low pressure systems tending to dominate the overall pattern. This will mean showers or longer spells of rain will affect the majority of the UK at times.

“Some heavy rain or showers are expected in places, most often in the west. Thunderstorms and hail are also possible, as are some spells of strong winds if any deep areas of low pressure form in the vicinity of the UK.

“Some short-lived spells of drier and more settled weather are also possible at times, especially later in the period. Temperatures will likely be close to average or slightly below overall, but may rise above at times in any drier, sunnier spells.”

This week, the Met Office said meteorological summer is ending on a wet and windy note after recent settled and warm weather – which has helped put the UK on track to having its warmest summer on record – subsided and was replaced with more unsettled conditions. Met Office Chief Meteorologist Steve Willington said: “A westerly regime is now in charge of the UK’s weather and will help fuel periods of wet and windy weather over the next few days, with showers and some longer spells of rain likely for much of the UK on Thursday and Friday.

“While many areas may welcome some rain after fairly prolonged dry weather, there’s a potential that over the next few days some parts of Wales, northwest England and western Scotland could see some impacts at times, which we’ll be keeping an eye on.”

Currently, two yellow weather warnings are in force until this afternoon. One has been issued for an area of south Wales, where frequent heavy showers could lead to some disruption. Another warning has been issued for southern parts of England and an area of southern Wales due to the risk of heavy showers and prolonged spells of rain which could lead to accumulations of 10-20mm of rain widely. Some locations near the coast could see up to 50-70mm over a few hours, the Met Office warned.

UK 5 day weather forecast

This Evening and Tonight:

Further showers for many this evening, some heavy with hail and thunder. Tending to become mostly dry in the east overnight. However, a spell of heavy rain will slowly move eastwards across southern counties of England and Wales. Staying breezy.

Friday:

Heavy rain across the southeast gradually clearing. Elsewhere, sunny spells and scattered showers. Again some heavy with the risk of hail and thunder. Rather cool and breezy.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Staying unsettled this weekend with further spells of rain and showers. Widely wet and windy on Saturday, but with some brightness returning on Sunday and Monday. Temperatures remaining around average.
