Cheshire park tragedy as boy, 12, falls to his death from playground ‘apparatus’

By staff31 August 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

The child was pronounced dead at the scene at Wharton Recreation Ground – police are now asking the public to come forward with any information about the tragedy

A 12-year-old boy has tragically died after falling from an “apparatus” at a playground in a Cheshire park.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the child was pronounced dead at the scene at Wharton Recreation Ground near Ledward Street in Winsford on Friday evening. Police have now launched an investigation into the incident after being called in by the North West Ambulance Service.

Cheshire Police said the child’s next of kin have been made aware and are being supported by specialist officers. The force is also urging anyone who was in the area or has information on the “deeply tragic” incident to come forward.

Boy, 6, died after bumping his head while playing with friends at school

Detective Sergeant John Rhodes, of the Protecting Vulnerable People Investigations Unit, said: “This was a deeply tragic incident involving a very young victim and our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the boy who sadly died at the scene.

“As part of our investigation into this incident, we are asking anyone who may have been in or around the Wharton Recreation Ground area just off Ledward Street in Winsford at around the time of the incident and saw anything that may aid us in our enquiries, to please get in touch.

“At this stage I would also like to ask the public not to feed into any speculation, particularly on social media, as this remains an ongoing investigation.” Anyone with information is asked to contact Cheshire Police via the website or 101, quoting IML-216564.

Earlier this month, an inquest heard that a six-year-old tragically died after bumping his head on a wall racing a friend in a school playground. Mohammed Yaseen Uddin, known as ‘Yaseen’, had been running around and also played tag during a lunch break at Marlborough Primary School, in Small Heath, when he suffered the devastating head trauma, just before 12.30pm, on December 10, last year.

He told a school receptionist: “I was running really fast, racing my friend and bumped into the wall.” Birmingham Coroner’s Court was told that he picked himself up and walked with a first aider to the school office and did not appear to be stumbling or drowsy.

The child then went back home but later at night he started complaining about head pain and began vomiting. However, after being sick in the car, he was taken back home to change. As he was feeling tired, he went to bed with his dad checking on him at 3am and 5am, where he was sleeping – but tragically an hour later him unconscious. He was rushed to hospital and despite the best efforts of doctors, Yaseen died at 12.08pm on December 11, last year.
