A British woman has been stabbed to death in Cambodia, with reports claiming she was tangled up in a love triangle.

Jessica Cariad Hopkins, 34, was found with multiple stab wounds in a park in Phnom Penh, the country’s capital, late on Friday night, authorities have said. A 33-year-old woman named locally as Kidikila Nganda Glodie, who is believed to be from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Officials said she was detained at a hair salon located about 1.5 miles from the murder scene on Saturday afternoon. Police commissioner Chuon Narin said early investigations appeared to indicate the motive may be linked to romantic jealousy.

According to her Facebook profile, Jessica, originally from Harpenden, Hertfordshire, had been living in Siem Reap, a resort town in northwestern Cambodia, a popular tourist spot for holidaymakers as it is the gateway to the ruins of Angkor. She was staying temporarily in the Chroy Changvar district of Phnom Penh at a rented property at the time of her death, according to local reports.

Several tributes to Jessica have been shared on social media. Sophors Chheoun wrote on Facebook: “I am heartbroken to lose my lovely neighbor and dear friend Jessica Cariad Hopkins. She was such a caring person, always there for me and my family, helping in ways big and small. Her kindness, her smile, and her generous heart meant so much to me.

“It feels unreal that she is gone. My heart aches knowing such a beautiful soul was taken from us too soon. Rest in peace, Jessica. You will forever be missed and remembered with love.” Another tribute read: “The Most Beautiful Soul & Very Kind Heart! RIP Jessica Cariad Hopkins.”

A third person said: “She was so kind and every time I was around her, always had a positive energy. Such a sweet soul… too soon.” Someone else who knew Jessica wrote: “My heart can’t take it. Jessica, you would always be the coolest person.

“You have a sweet and soft tone of voice when you speak. Your kindness always echoes in the room whenever you walk in. I will never forget the friendship and memories we’ve shared, and I will cherish them. Love you.”

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) is reportedly supporting Jessica’s family. The Mirror has contacted the Foreign Office for comment.
