The Inheritance viewers fume over new series with ‘complicated’ twist

Channel 4’s brand new game show with Elizabeth Hurley with Rob Rinder left many viewers confused with the show being described as ‘overly complicated’ and ‘a bit of a faff’

Channel 4’s The Inheritance is a brand new show which will see 13 contestants battle to win a fortune left by The Deceased, played by Elizabeth Hurley, with Rob Rinder working as The Executor.

The 12-part series will see the players battle it out in a series of challenges to unlock money from the will as they try to convince each other that only they should be trusted with the money pot. Every task they complete unlocks more cash, but only one person can claim it.

A description for the programme states: “The lucky thirteen must work as a team to complete The Deceased’s final requests, a series of devilishly difficult assignments that will demand they are clever, collaborative and cunning.

“The Deceased’s game has a delicious twist: only one player can claim the money gained in each request, so it’s up to one of them to persuade the others that they alone deserve the cash they earn together.”

Presenter Rob Rinder, assuming the position of The Deceased’s Executor and reliable legal advisor, will supervise the competitors as they tackle the tasks.

As the show began, viewers were introduced to the players, as well as a full introduction to what the show is about and how they are going to win the money. However, just minutes into the show, many fans were left confused, with the show being described as ‘overly complicated’ and ‘a bit of a faff’.

One viewer took to X, formally known as Twitter, and wrote: “I don’t understand the task already”, while another added: “It’s all a bit of a faff”.

A third said: “#theinheritance seems overly complicated for no reason”, while another claimed that the rules haven’t been properly explained: “So weird they haven’t explained the rules of the game or what the prize amount is. Sometimes telly treats viewers like idiots, but in #theinheritance they need to give us a wee clue what the actual stakes are.”

Others labelled the show as a ‘rip-off’ of BBC ’s The Traitors as one person penned: “Oh it’s that “The Traitors” rip-off on the other side #TheInheritance”, while another added: “So it’s The Traitors but on ch4?…”

Liz Hurley spoke about the show while appearing on The One Show where she revealed she never got the chance to meet any of the contestants

Liz Hurley spoke about the show while appearing on The One Show where she revealed she never got the chance to meet any of the contestants but said she had seen the show and it was ‘great.

Speaking about Rob Rinder, she said: “He was my sidekick, who of course I never meet, because I’m dead and he’s there with the contestants.

“So, I never really mingled with any of them, I was just sadly by myself to film my bits. But, I’ve seen it, and it’s great!”
