Brits told to plant these 2 flowers in the garden this September

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has shared the two flowers that should be planted in September to ensure beautiful blooms all year round

Brits are being advised to plant two specific flowers this month to ensure a year-round display of beautiful blooms.

Depending on how they’re planted, these lovely blossoms could flower next spring or even at Christmas, ensuring your garden is always awash with colour. Firstly, daffodils are one of the most reliable spring-flowering bulbs that bloom year after year with minimal care.

They thrive in containers and borders, and are quick and easy to plant, making them perfect for gardening beginners who want to enjoy bright spring blooms next year. The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) recommends planting daffodil bulbs in early autumn, ideally in September.

Just remember to plant them at the correct depth, which is around three times the bulb’s height, to ensure they continue to flower for years to come.

In September, you can also plant ‘forced’ daffodil bulbs, which are spring-flowering bulbs artificially stimulated to bloom outside their natural season, reports the Express.

After being subjected to a cold, dark period to mimic winter conditions, a warm, bright environment inside can simulate spring. This technique works well with the paper-white daffodil, which the RHS says should flower at Christmas or New Year.

Next on the list are hyacinths. These stunning, vibrantly coloured blooms will add a splash of colour to any border with their shades of blue, white, pink, red and purple. If you’re looking to add a burst of colour and fragrance to your garden in the spring, then hyacinths are a great choice.

These beautiful blooms should flower in March and April if they’re planted in borders and containers during the autumn months. To make the most of their delightful scent, consider planting them closer to your home.

Hyacinths thrive in well-drained soil and sunny spots, but be warned, if they’re left in partial shade, they may not flourish as well in subsequent years. When it comes to planting, place the bulbs around 10 cm deep with the pointed end facing upwards.

They appreciate a bit of space to grow, so ensure there’s a minimum gap of about 7.5cm between each bulb. And remember, while they’re growing and flowering, it’s important to keep the soil moist.
