An enormous corpse of a sea animal was found washed up on a beach in Wales, leaving visitors at the beauty spot stunned.

The huge carcass was spotted on Wednesday morning, September 3, on the sands of Cefn Sidan Beach in Pembrey, Carmarthenshire. One shocked visitor was convinced the corpse was that of a whale that had washed ashore, but the exact species is yet to be confirmed. The creature is now likely to be examined by marine experts to identify its cause of death. In past incidents across Wales, stranded whales have often been malnourished or harmed by pollution, including plastic waste. Cefn Sidan, one of the country’s longest beaches, is a popular spot for walkers, families and tourists. The creature’s sudden arrival has stunned the local community – but could offer scientists crucial insights into the state of marine life in the area.

The discovery comes just days after tourists were left stunned by the sheer size of a sea creature that washed up on a beach in the popular sunbathing spot.

The massive jellyfish appeared on El Castillo Beach in Fuengirola, Spain, on Saturday, August 23. A shocking video surfaced showing a beachgoer attempt to roll the jellyfish out of the shallow water and onto the sand, using their flip-flop. Social media users were quick to question whether this was the right move, blaming humans for “messing up our ecosystem”. Gema wrote: “Why are they taking it out? Just so it’ll die – how clueless! Humans are always messing up our ecosystem.”

While Cristina added: “I think giant jellyfish are harmless; leave it alone.” Another user, Maria Jos asked: “Why don’t they leave it in the water? That’s its natural habitat.” Yet others defended the moving of the creature. Mouad said: “For those asking why they’re taking it out – jellyfish are venomous and can be particularly dangerous for kids.”

Elizabeth added: “Look at all the environmentalists here. Funny how after a concert or a few bonfires, the beach ends up a total mess – full of plastic that ends up in the habitat of these little creatures. Let’s not be hypocrites -we know how it is.”

The exact species of the jellyfish was not clear, but the largest in the Mediterranean is usually the barrel jellyfish, known as Rhizostoma pulmo. Barrel jellyfish ususally measure up to 40cm in diameter but can even reach 150cm or more. They also tend to be found in British and Irish waters.
