Liverpool make Michael Olise plan as Arne Slot eyes long-term Mo Salah replacement

Mohamed Salah will be 35 by the end of his next contract and Liverpool need a successor and are already making transfer plans to ensure they are ready to make a signing if required

The transfer window has only just closed but Liverpool are already planning for the future. The Reds were firmly forced to consider the prospect of life without Mohamed Salah last season as his contract saga wore on and despite now being tied down until 2027, the Anfield club know they will need a successor.

The end of the Egyptian star’s deal offers a deadline for Arne Slot and co to work towards with a transfer possibly required next summer or the following. Liverpool’s Dutch boss has plenty of attacking talent at his disposal currently after a busy summer window with Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz all arriving in mega-money deals.

Rio Ngumoha also looks set to break out this season after being included in Liverpool’s Champions League squad over Federico Chiesa and scoring against Newcastle. The starlet will barely have turned 19 in two years time however.

Liverpool already have their eyes on potential targets, and there is one who could already have reached the top of their shortlist, according to Mail Online. Early noises suggest Bayern Munich star Michael Olise is a contender for that spot.

Olise starred in his first season at Bayern Munich as he was named rookie of the year in the Bundesliga. The French international helped his team reclaim the German title and scored 20 goals and 23 assists in all competitions across his debut season.

The 23-year-old joined the European giants from Crystal Palace in a £50million deal. And Bayern Munich chiefs may already feel vindicated in their belief at the time that they have signed a £100m player for half of the price.

Bayern beat a host of top clubs to Olise’s signature, including Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle. Olise is under contract until 2029 at the Allianz Arena.

It’s already clear any deal for Olise would not come cheap, and prospective sellers have been set benchmarks in Liverpool’s recent British record dealings for Wirtz and Isak. Any interaction between the clubs could yet be impacted by another deal however.

Bayern Munich have joined a growing list of European clubs interested in signing Marc Guehi. The Crystal Palace defender saw his £35m move to Liverpool collapse when the Eagles pulled the plug on deadline day to leave him furious.

The Reds are set to return for his signatures but will find new competition, with European sides permitted to discuss terms of a contract in January when Guehi enters the final six months of his deal at Selhurst Park. Inter Milan and Juventus are also interested in the England international who will be able to command a bigger contract as a free agent.
