Top Tech: Samsung’s new Galaxy S25 FE launches with £23 deal and £370 freebies

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S25 FE on Thursday

Samsung has launched a brand-new addition to its Galaxy smartphone range. On Thursday (September 4), the tech giant unveiled the Galaxy S25 FE, touted as the ‘newest and most attainable addition to the Galaxy S25 lineup’.

It forms part of Samsung’s budget-friendly ‘Fan Edition’ series and starts at £649 from Samsung and Amazon, but still packs a punch despite its cheaper price tag. The S25 FE features a 6.7” dynamic AMOLED 2X display, 12MP ultra-wide camera and 50MP wide camera, plus 256GB of storage, a powerful 4,900 mAh battery and an IP68 water and dust resistance rating.

It also boasts a wealth of Galaxy AI functions such as Generative Edit and Circle to Search alongside Google’s AI-powered Gemini Live. All of this is housed in an enhanced Armor Aluminum frame with a slim, lightweight build and a choice of four colours: Icyblue, Jetblack, Navy and White.

Although it is £150 cheaper than the Galaxy S25, many Android fans prefer to spread the cost with a contract such as Sky Mobile’s £23 launch deal. Sky is offering £368 worth of freebies with this package, as shoppers can claim a free Galaxy Watch7 worth £239 and get a pair of free Galaxy Buds3 FE worth £129 included with the phone.

The phone comes with a 100MB data allowance, but for those needing more data, Sky’s data plans include 3GB for £6 or 50GB for £12. The main thing to consider is that Sky’s £23 deal is on a 36-month contract, but customers can swap to a new phone anytime after 24 months at no extra cost.

Sky Mobile shoppers ordering a Samsung Galaxy S25 FE can get a free Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Buds3 FE at no extra cost.

Elsewhere, Currys-backed retailer Mobiles.co.uk is offering the handset on iD Mobile’s £26.99 unlimited data plan, but this does not include free earbuds. Announcing the new model, Jay Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Customer Experience Office, Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, said: “Galaxy S25 FE plays an important role as a gateway into the broader Galaxy AI ecosystem, making these experiences more attainable for a wider range of users.

“With expanded personalised AI experiences and AI-powered photography and editing tools, Galaxy S25 FE empowers more people to bring greater convenience and creativity into their everyday lives.”

The timing of the launch may be seen by some as an attempt to steal the limelight from Apple as it comes days ahead of the rumoured iPhone 17 launch, which is expected to be unveiled on September 9. Ahead of this, Apple’s latest model – the iPhone 16e – has been dropping in price at retailers including Amazon and Sky Mobile, with prices now starting at £544 or £18 per month.

But for those who prefer Android, the Daily Express Tech Editor Dave Snelling tried the Galaxy S25 FE out for himself, saying: “The new S25 FE is another decent device from Samsung. It feels super premium in the hand and has a pixel-packed 6.7-inch display.

“There are all the AI smarts found on the standard S25, including full Google Gemini access, plus other features such as fast charging and a toughened design. No, it doesn’t get the impressive Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, the cameras can’t match the Ultra and there are less colour choices but if those things don’t worry you then the FE is one to watch out for.

“The only issues from my short time with this phone could be that it only comes in one large screen size, and it is still pretty expensive. Samsung has got some promotional offers, but I can’t help thinking a £599 price tag would seem more appealing.”
