The Met Office’s latest forecasts for the rest of September show heavy rain, thunderstorms, and cooler temperatures. With summer weather coming to an end, people might want to consider investing in a ‘big coat’ over the next few weeks.

Next has a massive selection of coats that should see you through autumn and beyond. Plenty of styles are described as timeless and usually work well with a wide variety of outfits, so people don’t have to reconsider their entire wardrobe when shopping.

One option that plenty of Next shoppers have been raving about is the Chocolate Brown Shower Resistant Padded Puffer Hooded Mid-Length Coat. It’s available for £64 on the fashion retailer’s website and comes in sizes 6-24 with further options to go regular, petite or tall.

Next bosses describe this winter essential as being a “cold season staple” and perfect for anyone that needs to “take on the elements” during the school run, heading to work or enjoying a day out without letting the cold bother you.

In the product description, Next says: “Made from a durable and shower-resistant fabric, this mid-length coat will keep you warm and dry during winter. Complete with pockets, a hood and zip fastening [too].”

There are similar coats out there such as the Longline Padded Puffer Coat at New Look for £85.99 or the TOG24 Palmer Padded Jacket available at Debenhams for £59, down from £85. But, lots of shoppers are raving about the “stylish” Next option the most.

Overall, Next’s Chocolate Brown Shower Resistant Padded Puffer Hooded Mid-Length Coat has a 4.2 out of 5-star rating based on reviews from shoppers who have tried and verified what the coat claims to offer. One said: “Lovely and warm, plus it’s nice and thick so when it’s windy you don’t feel it at all. Not like other coats I’ve bought, it looks nice on and feels nice too, just what I wanted.”

Another added: “Love this coat toasty warm and shower proof, however I would recommend going up a size [as it is a] snug fit.” A third put: “Lovely coat, perfect fit, colour and excellent quality. Very warm to wear and will last many years. Looks and feels very expensive.”

But, not everyone was happy with the coat. A handful of shoppers felt like they had to post low-rated reviews for the coat, with one claiming: “The only good thing about this coat was the colour. Zipped pockets that catch your hand when using. The hidden hood isn’t functional at all and won’t keep you dry anytime soon. I returned this coat straight away.”

One more shopper shared: “Lovely length coat and felt warm but I did not like the very bulky collar so had to return it. Would have liked just a simple hood.” However, someone else said: “This coat is perfect, waterproof and feels like a duvet when it’s on. Great buy!”
