Disney Adventure stormed by police just days after new cruise ship launched

Disney’s new cruise ship has been stormed by police just two days after setting sail.

The Disney Adventure was docked in Germany when officers came onto the ship in a targeted operation to arrest two of the workers on board. The cruise liner, which is 1122ft long and 150ft wide, departed from Germany this week to begin a series of assessments at sea before welcoming passengers later this year.

There are currently more than 1,400 workers on board – two of whom were arrested on Wednesday.

Disney Adventure had stopped at a German port to take on fuel when the police made the arrests. One was a Croatian worker who is wanted by the Bavarian Police for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The man had been sentenced in 2022 to pay a fine of £2,081 or spend 60 days in prison. After paying the fine, he was allowed to stay on the cruise ship. A second man was arrested for fraud after a warrant had been issued by the Munich District Court. He was taken off the ship and to a correctional facility, the Daily Mail reported.

A spokesperson for the German Federal Police said that the two individuals were “shipyard workers travelling with the ship”. The Mirror has reached out to Disney for comment.

The cruise, set to host 6,700 passengers and about 2,500 crew members, is scheduled to depart from Singapore in December for its maiden voyage. The ship will have seven themed areas bringing tales from Disney, Marvel, and Pixar to life “on a grand scale”.

Guests can expect dazzling Broadway-style shows, deck parties, movie screenings, and meet and greets with characters, Disney explains. There will also be themed restaurants throughout the ship, dedicated children’s spaces, and merchandise stores for shopping-lovers.

The news comes two months after a child fell from the fourth deck of another Disney cruise ship travelling from the Bahamas to the US. The girl appeared to fall overboard when her father took her picture against a railing. Witnesses said that the man then jumped in after her and a man overboard alert was broadcast on the ship.

The two passengers were rescued, with a Disney Cruise Line spokesperson saying: “The Crew aboard the Disney Dream swiftly rescued two guests from the water. We commend our Crew Members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes.”

One passenger, Laura Amador, told CBS News at the time: “The ship was moving quickly, so quickly, it’s crazy how quickly the people became tiny dots in the sea, and then you lost sight of them. The captain slowed the ship and turned it around, and then they deployed a tender ship with people on it to go get them, and we saw them rescue the dad and daughter.”
