Duchess of Kent’s granddaughter Lady Marina shares unseen snaps in emotional tribute

By staff6 September 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

The Duchess of Kent’s granddaughter, Lady Marina Windsor, has shared a tear-jerking tribute to the late royal, who sadly died earlier this week

The Duchess of Kent’s granddaughter, Lady Marina Windsor, has shared unseen snaps of the royal with a moving tribute. Buckingham Palace announced earlier this week that the Duchess had died at the age of 92. Lady Marina, 32, the daughter of George, Earl of St Andrews, and Sylvana, Countess of St Andrews, lived with her grandparents, the Duke and Duchess of Kent, at Wren House, Kensington Palace.

In a statement on Instagram, the royal said: “Rest in peace my amazing and beloved Amama, we will miss and love you so much always and thank you to everyone who has sent such kind and touching messages, sending lots of love to all.”

Taking to her Instagram Stories, Lady Marina, added: “My amazing amama. I love you always and forever and more than words could ever say. Thank you for everything. All the deep love, special friendship, giggles and hugs. I will miss you so much and you will always be in my heart.”

Buckingham Palace announced on Friday that Her Royal Highness had died surrounded by her family on Thursday evening at her home, Wren House, Kensington Palace. In a statement, which was also attached to the gates of the palace, they said: “It is with deep sorrow that Buckingham Palace announces the death of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Kent. Her Royal Highness passed away peacefully last night at Kensington Palace, surrounded by her family.

“The King and Queen and all Members of The Royal Family join The Duke of Kent, his children and grandchildren in mourning their loss and remembering fondly The Duchess’s life-long devotion to all the organisations with which she was associated, her passion for music and her empathy for young people.”

No further details surrounding the death of the Duchess were shared, but it’s understood that she had been unwell for some time.

The Union Flag at the Palace was lowered to half-mast at midday as a mark of respect, with the royals entering a period of mourning. Katharine, the wife of the late Queen Elizabeth’s cousin, Prince Edward, was last seen in public in October alongside her husband in a wheelchair.

Following Her Majesty’s death in September 2022, Katharine had been the oldest living member of the Royal Family and has now been succeeded by her husband, the Duke of Kent. However, in recent years, she has stepped back from public appearances and didn’t attend Queen Elizabeth’s funeral or King Charles’ Coronation in May 2023.

Today, Buckingham Palace announced that the Duchess of Kent’s funeral will take place at Westminster Cathedral on Tuesday. King Charles, Queen Camilla and other senior members of the House of Windsor, as well as the Duchess’s close friends and family, are expected to attend the ceremony at Westminster Cathedral.

Prince Andrew, who is a non-working member of the firm, and Prince Harry, who is in the UK for a week, may also be in attendance. It will be the first royal Catholic funeral in modern history and the first royal funeral held at Westminster Cathedral since its construction in 1903. The duchess’s special military relationships will be reflected in aspects of the ceremony, which will start at 2pm.

Ahead of the funeral, which will be officiated by the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster, her coffin will rest in the private chapel at Kensington Palace. It will be taken by hearse to Westminster Cathedral on Monday, where the Rite of Reception and Vespers will take place before resting overnight in the Lady Chapel. After the funeral, the coffin will be taken by hearse to the Royal Burial Ground at Frogmore, Windsor.
