A former waitress from Texas who went “missing” from her home has insisted she is happy in her new life as a handmaiden in a “tribe” in Scotland and says she doesn’t want to go home.

Kaura Taylor, 21, fled Dallas, Texas, with her one-year-old daughter in May causing alarm among family and friends when she surfaced again as part of the “Kingdom of Kubala” in Scotland. She described how she had given up her old name, calling herself Asnat within the tribe alongside Queen Nandi, 43, a mother of seven who was born Jean Gasho and her husband ‘King Atehene’.

Taylor, a high-school graduate who had formerly worked at a gas station and as a waitress, was described as a “church-going” child. She had apparently been messaging the self-proclaimed King and Queen for months before leaving her former life behind.

She is now understood to be living in a forest in Jedburgh alongside the “king and queen” where she sits by their feet and has to look up at him for approval before he lets her speak. In her first in-depth interview about her past, Kaura, or Asnat, as she is known within the tribe, has shared how she had never even left Dallas before arriving in Scotland – but now has no intention of returning home.

The trio have settled in the Scottish woodland with the stated intention of reclaiming land they say was stolen from their ancestors in the Highlands 400 years ago. Kaura described her role in camp, making food and fires as a “willing subserveant” and tidying up behind the others. However she said she said she had “no regrets” about leaving “everything she knew” behind her and has rejected pleas from friends and family back in the US begging her to come home.

“Anyone who knew me on a personal level in America has always known about my very strong opinions on spirituality, and always known about how I feel in regards to our customs like submission – certain things that have always been a critical value of mine,” she said. “I guess I’m just trying to say that it wasn’t that much different from how I live now. I was always here in the spirit, and my beliefs and my values have always aligned with this lifestyle. Being a part of Kubala is something that was always in me.”

Kaura said she had seen many of the messages telling her to “come home” but claimed many were from people who barely knew her. She added: “Of course I recognise some of them, but I had two actual friends. A lot of these people had casual, cordial associations with me in high school or middle school, but any personal relationships would know already about this lifestyle, because I’ve always been very opinionated.

“I don’t know what their need to be associated with me now is – these aren’t people that I care about. Those people who do know anything about where I come from – I lived a very hard life. Health-wise was just the tip of the iceberg. The part of Texas, the part of Dallas I come from – it was a very hard life.”

Kaura had claimed in previous videos she fled a “toxic” family, an accusation strongly denied by her family. Her baby is understood to have been taken into care by the UK authorities and is being returned to the US.

Kaura said there were some things she missed about her ‘former life’ that was all she ever knew. She added: “Who wouldn’t miss some things about everything they’ve ever known? I left everybody that I’ve ever known. I only knew Dallas. I never really even travelled around Texas. Of course, I miss some foods. There’s moments where I’ll think about certain people who’ve passed away – life was really hard, so you’d lose a lot of people along the way – but there is nothing that amounts to what I’ve gained with this lifestyle.

“I can only see that progressing. I can only see a positive outcome. There is no doubt in my mind that the rest of the tribes that will join us in the near future in this journey will have a similar experience. The King says our God works gradually, so it’s not a shock to your system. It wasn’t like I woke up one day and was a completely different person – which is kind of the narrative that’s being portrayed.

“I see a bright future. This is just the beginning – all of the persecution that we face, our ancestors faced this tenfold. We are very grateful. We are very faithful people – we walk by faith and not by sight, so we don’t know what tomorrow will hold.”

Clashes between the tribe and locals have ramped up in recent days. An “attack” on the camp was filmed by the “queen” and Kaura became visibly distressed and had to be calmed down while a group arrived to “torment” them. The tribe had already been evicted from one site and a further eviction notice was served on Friday ordering the tribe to vacate its current spot by Monday evening.

These have already been rejected by the “King and Queen” who say they don’t recognise local laws. Speaking from the camp, the “King”, who’s real name is Kofi Offeh, said: “The Kingdom of Kubala is for the chosen ones – our people who were deported from here from the four corners of the earth, Haiti, Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica.

“Outside of that, there are people who would want to be part of Kubala, people of other races. If they see the light and want to be part of the light, their spirit is tested, and they are made to perform certain basic rituals to confirm their willingness and desire to serve our creator.

“When that is done, they are welcome to come and learn our ways and to abide by our laws, not the laws of the world. We believe in submission. As men, we submit to the creator. The women submit to the men, the children submit to their mother, and the pets submit to the children.

“There is a hierarchy in Kubala, which promotes peace and harmony. This is one of the laws of Kubala. We are on a pilgrimage, and what happens tomorrow is determined by Yahowah. Today we are in a tent – tomorrow you may meet us in a castle, in our old ruins, for nothing in Kubala is a shock to us.”

He added: “We do not work on the Sabbath day, which is Saturday. We do not eat pork and unclean meat, so if you want to be part of Kubala, you have to leave the world behind and reconnect with the narrow road so that you now see the glory of innocence.”
