Ryder Cup star Tyrrell Hatton woke up in his own vomit after celebrating making team

LIV Golf star Tyrrell Hatton wants another boozy party following a European win in Long Island – but this time he wants to stay awake and avoid the painful wake up

Tyrrell Hatton of England looks on during a practice day prior to The 153rd Open Championship at Royal Portrush Golf Club on July 16, 2025 in Portrush, Northern Ireland.

Tyrrell Hatton is ready for another “messy” Ryder Cup victory party after revealing he woke up in his own vomit when he qualified for the European team. But the LIV Golf star is unlikely to take as many shots at Bethpage Black as he managed in his pre-event celebrations.

The Hero Dubai Desert Classic champion finished sixth in the rankings to win an automatic place despite only playing five qualifying events this year. Captain Luke Donald called him last month to confirm the news after LIV Indianapolis where Jon Rahm sealed the individual title.

And the two Ryder Cup team-mates, who are both teeing up at the BMW PGA at Wentworth this week, then celebrated in outrageous style.

“That was a very nice phone call to receive – I was over the moon to be honest,” said the world No.25. “Jon had just won the individual, so we had a bit of a tear-up. Yeah, that was a messy night

“I had like six glasses of wine at dinner, and then I had a double gin and tonic, drunk that at a very normal rate. And then Jon was deciding what he wanted and he said: ‘Disaronno sours.’ “And I was like: ‘Perfect, go on then. They go down very easily’. And then I was starting the chant of basically getting someone to down it, which then every cocktail that then followed was a shot.

“So we then ran out of Disaronno sour. The guy at the bar made some hazelnut sour which wasn’t great and there were a few of them. Then there was a margarita and then there was a strawberry vodka thing. God, it was aggressive. It was horrible.

“I fell asleep at the table and then I ended up getting woken up and everyone had basically left. It just shows I was good craic at the end of the night. It was funny at the time. I won’t go into details of what state that I woke up in.”

But Hatton, 33, did not need much persuading to give further details. “If you want to know, I’ll tell you,” he laughed. “When I actually got back into the room, I fell asleep face down down on the bed and I woke myself up throwing up in that position. I had gotten sick all down my arms, both sides, all down my shirt.

“I get off the bed and walk around to the bathroom, look in the mirror, and I’m sick in my face, in my beard. I ended up calling (my wife) Emily saying: I don’t know what to do.’ I was rushing to make the room somewhat acceptable before leaving.

“I ended up stripping the bed, leaving some cash and a note, saying I was ‘really sorry, I was sick in the bed in the night, please throw it in the trash’ How I set an alarm to make a flight in a few hours’ time, I don’t know.”

Hatton recalled he was “shouting Ralph at the toilet” celebrating winning the Ryder Cup in Paris in 2018. “Yeah, it happens quite often when I drink too much,” he said. “Some people just aren’t sick but I guess I’m one of those people that it just has to come out.”

Asked if he will repeat the celebrations in Long Island, the 2020 BMW PGA winner said: “I’d like to think that we would celebrate pretty well, and there is a good chance I will be throwing up. But yeah, hopefully I’m not like falling asleep and I can enjoy most of the night with everyone. I don’t ever want to get to that state again to be honest.”
