A poignant tribute to Ricky Hatton took place before the Manchester derby following the tragic news of the boxing legend’s death at the age of 46 earlier in the day.
Hatton, a huge Manchester City fan, was expected to attend Sunday’s big game. But news of his death emerged shortly before kick off, with City releasing a statement expressing their sadness at the news.
A tribute to Hatton in the form of a minute’s applause took place before kick-off while both teams donned black armbands to remember ‘The Hitman’.
Both sets of supporters joined together in unison to chant “there’s only one Ricky Hatton” while a picture of the former world champion was shared on the big screen.
