Over 6.5 million Brits are grappling with gut issues. Symptoms ranging from bloating and cramps to emergency loo dashes and rumbling stomachs, can be anything from uncomfortable to downright disruptive.

This sudden need for the loo is also known as ‘Bowel Urgency’ and can spoil days out when hit by the panic. Gut Wealth founder and expert Gemma Stuart has shared five tips on how to manage bowel urgency.

Speaking to The Mirror last year, she said: “Many people are scared to enjoy the outdoors, day trips, or holidays due to the unpredictability of their bowel movements. This fear can hold people back from living their lives to the fullest, creating a cycle of stress and gut issues that perpetuates the problem.”

However, many people – from those with occasional gut distress to IBS sufferers – are singing the praises of Gut Wealth capsules. Made with clinically-informed ingredients, they help to support gut immunity, improve regularity and reduce bloating, reports Birmingham Live.

Right now, customers can save £21 when they start a 12-week plan with Gut Wealth and enjoy free UK postage, meaning the supplements work out at less than £1.20 a day. The Gut Wealth 12-week programme is now £99, down from £120, working out at just over £30 per month.

The Gut Wealth 12-week plan is available at Gut Wealth.

Touted as a “science-led formula with 12 digestion-boosting ingredients including a postbiotic,” Gut Wealth maintains that its capsules enhance digestive health, improve stool consistency, and minimise bloating. According to the brand, each ingredient has been scientifically chosen to help soothe digestive upset and enhance bowel regularity.

The active ingredients are:

  • B1 (Thiamine), which supports metabolism;
  • B2 (Riboflavin) for reducing tiredness and helping maintain gut lining;
  • B3 (Niacin) for psychological function and gut lining;
  • B5 (Pantothenic acid) for mental performance;
  • B6 (Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate) for hormone regulation;
  • B9 (Folic Acid) for immune function;
  • B12 (Methylcobalamin) for metabolism;
  • Biotin for the nervous system;
  • Vitamin D3 for immunity and muscle function;
  • Lactobacillus LB (fermentum + delbrueckii) for gut balance;
  • Inulin (from chicory root), a source of prebiotic fibre;
  • and marshmallow root to soothe the gut lining.

For the full effect, the capsules should be taken for at least 12 weeks to allow the gut microbiome appropriate time to respond.

Gemma Stuart’s Tips for Bowel Urgency

Track It: Start jotting down every time you’re hit by the sudden need to use the loo. As you gather this data, you might spot common patterns – such as needing to go at certain times, after specific meals, or during high-stress periods. This not only helps you plan around your bowel movements but can also aid a doctor in making an official diagnosis.

Plan ahead: When planning a trip or day out, scope out restaurants and other venues for their facilities when you first enter, and use online forums dedicated to rating the best public loos in London to help you find a restroom on the go (people are raving about the M&S loo on Oxford Street).

Apply for a Can’t Wait Card: A Can’t Wait Card is designed to be discreetly tucked away in a purse or wallet and can be shown to staff in shops, restaurants, and other venues so you can use their loo without having to explain your condition.

Don’t Get Caught Short: Unfortunately, those who suffer from bowel urgency need to be prepared for an emergency movement wherever they go. Make sure you have handy wipes if you know you’ll be using public facilities.

Invest in Postbiotics: Postbiotics are produced by healthy bacteria in your gut to help digest your food and create an environment conducive to good gut bacteria. This can be extremely beneficial in treating irritable gut symptoms such as inflammation, bloating, diarrhoea, and bowel urgency.

If these supplements don’t appeal, there are other alternatives available. For instance, Bulk’s Gut Health Powder is priced at £24.99 for 450g directly from Bulk, and includes five digested enzymes, inulin, collagen and more to support gut health and immunity.

There’s also Biomel Complete Gut Powder, which is priced at £24 for 450g of the Belgian Chocolate flavour from Holland and Barrett. This one reportedly contains 25 billion live cultures, six prebiotic fibres and five digestive enzymes to aid gut health.

The Gut Wealth capsules have garnered plenty of positive reviews on the site. One customer said: “I love Gut Wealth, tastes great, keeps bloating away, keeps you regular.”

Another added: “An amazing product, the best I have tried!”

One satisfied customer, a nurse, praised the product saying: “Working shifts as a nurse meant I had no bowls routine, often suffering from severe constipation. I started incorporating Gut Wealth as part of my daily routine. It tastes great and is easy to throw into my works bag so I don’t forget. Having a healthy bowel has made me feel less sluggish and full of energy… highly recommend. Kudos to Gemma and her team for making this product.”

However, some found it wasn’t quite right for them. One customer said: “So much more convenient than the sachets, particularly for travelling! Works just as well too. No trouble switching from the sachets to the capsules.

“Only comment would be that capsules are quite large to swallow which might be difficult for some to manage – personally, not a problem.” Another shopper added: “Helping with regulating bowel movements and has stopped constipated. Tummy still bloated but not as much as before.”
