Manchester ‘murder’ as boy arrested after death of another teenager

By staff16 September 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Greater Manchester Police confirmed this morning a 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the Moss Side death, and the youngster remains in custody for questioning

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of another teenager in Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police said the suspect had been detained after the other 15-year-old boy died following reports of a disturbance “involving a number of people” in the Moss Side area. He is in custody for questioning.

The force said the victim was found with stab wounds on Monton Street just after 4.30pm on Monday. Section 60 powers, allowing officers to stop and search people, are in place in the area until just after 5pm on Tuesday.

Police said enquiries are continuing and additional officers will be in the area over the next few days. Chief Superintendent David Meeney from the City of Manchester district earlier said: “Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends after this tragic and upsetting incident, and our specially trained officers will be supporting them at this difficult time.”

Officers rushed to Monton Street, in the Moss Side area of the city where officers found the teenager with stab wounds. He was treated at the scene and taken to hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead.

Greater Manchester Police’s previous statement reads: “We were called to Monton Street, Moss Side, at just after 4:30pm today (15 September 2025) to reports of a disturbance involving a number of people.

“A 15-year-old was found with stab wounds and sadly, after being treated at the scene and in hospital, he was pronounced dead a short time later.” Police have put in place a stop and search order which runs until tomorrow evening. There will be a section 60 in place until 5:20pm on Tuesday 16 September that allows officers to stop and search people in the area in red.”

Chief Superintendent David Meeney from the City of Manchester district had said specially trained officers are supporting the family of the victim while an investigation is underway. He said: “There is a thorough investigation plan in place as we look to find the perpetrator of this appalling act that has seen a young man lose his life.

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends after this tragic and upsetting incident, and our specially trained officers will be supporting them at this difficult time. We have officers in the area as we work to establish the circumstances that led up to the incident.”

Ch Spt Meeney also appealed to the public asking for anyone who may have information about the incident to come forward. “This incident will understandably have caused shock and concern within the community and the surrounding area, particularly those who witnessed it,” he said.
