I visited Home Bargains and instantly spotted ‘hard to ignore’ problem

By staff16 September 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

It’s the second time that I’ve noticed the discount store’s problem after first seeing it last year

I popped into my local Home Bargains for a few bits and bobs, but couldn’t resist having a sneaky look at some of the Christmas stock. I spotted a mix of new and returning items, with many shoppers expecting to get an even larger selection once Halloween is out of the way next month.

However, one item stood out for all the wrong reasons. At first glance, it’s a charming festive cup, but upon closer inspection, there’s an issue that can’t be ignored.

Home Bargains sold the same design on milk bottle-style glasses back in 2024. There were two versions, including one with a green elf confirming that children were ‘on the nice list’.

But the Santa version had a different message. The cheerful man who’s always a sign of Christmas appears to be standing underneath a wave of falling snowflakes, shouting ‘Jingle all the way’.

However, there’s a mistake that any sharp-eyed shopper will find hard to ignore, as I wrote for the Liverpool Echo. This year, the milk bottle style has been replaced with mason jars with handles, making the festive illustration much bigger.

Parents will likely be keen to snap up the £1.29 cup for their little ones over Christmas, as it could make the perfect budget-friendly addition to a Christmas Eve box. The error may be tricky to spot unless you take a very close look at the four-word phrase.

Every glass carries the same typo that jumbles one letter – mispelling ‘Jingle’ as ‘Jinlge’. The printing error wasn’t just seen at Home Bargains last year, as the same cups were also sold on Amazon with the same mistake.

Now, in 2025, it seems the issue hasn’t been fixed, and the same blunder has returned to shops. When questioned about the misprint, a spokesperson for Home Bargains told the Liverpool Echo that no one was available to comment on the situation.

It’s not the only error that Home Bargains shoppers noticed last year. People felt they were getting a great deal on a £6.99 metal sign that had been slashed to £2.99 during the run-up to Christmas – until it turned out the sign had a massive mistake on it.

Meanwhile, the discount store’s seasonal aisles are beginning to brim with festive items. On 1 September, just as the meteorological calendar officially marked the transition from summer to autumn, shoppers spotted decorations adorning parts of the aisles.

Having revealed their festive range in July, customers can now check some of it out in-store. From ornaments to cosy winter scents, a range of items are ready to be squirrelled away for display in homes later in the year. Customers can also find a massive selection of Christmas items on the Home Bargains website. Some products can be ordered online for delivery, while others are exclusively available for purchase in-store.
