James Maddison has last laugh at Man Utd with Tottenham Champions League brag

James Maddison has poked fun at Manchester United’s lack of Champions League football as he boasted about attending Tottenham’s clash at the top table of Europe

Tottenham Hotspur have been on a roll under the new management of Thomas Frank, clinching a 1-0 victory over Villarreal in Tuesday night’s Champions League match. The only goal of the game came courtesy of an own goal by Luiz Junior in the fourth minute, securing a fourth victory in five games for Frank since he took over from Ange Postecoglou at Spurs.

This promising start to the season has been achieved despite several key players being sidelined due to injuries. James Maddison is anticipated to be out of action until 2026 following an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained during pre-season.

Despite their injuries, Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Radu Dragusin often show up at Spurs’ home games to cheer on their teammates, and Tuesday night was no exception. However, before the match against Villarreal, Maddison took part in EA Sports’ First Gameplay Livestream event in London.

Joining gaming community figures such as Angry Ginge, Behzinga and Niko Omilana, Maddison helped hype up the forthcoming version of the game and teamed up with Adebayo Akinfenwa during the stream, reports football.london.

He also took part in EA Sports’ further gameplay stream before mingling with a number of streamers at the event who had been invited to try out the game early.

As he left the event to head to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to watch the Spurs play, the 28 year old couldn’t resist taking a playful jab at Manchester United.

Spurs secured their Champions League berth by defeating United in the Europa League final back in May.

Despite languishing in 17th place in the Premier League, the north London outfit are now rubbing shoulders with Europe’s elite and splashed the cash during the transfer window to snap up players like Xavi Simons.

As he bid farewell to Angry Ginge, who backs United, Maddison declared: “I’ve got to get to the game. I’ve got to get to the Champions League game.”

Ginge, whose real name is Morgan Burtwhistle, responded: “Oh, Champions League?”. Maddison then fired back: “The competition we qualified for by beating you,” before strolling off with a chuckle.
