Marcus Rashford was in sensational form for Barcelona as he scored twice in their 2-1 win over Newcastle United in the Champions League, leaving Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho in awe.
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho were both left stunned after Marcus Rashford’s spectacular brace for Barcelona on Thursday night. The United loanee proved crucial as Hansi Flick’s squad kicked off their Champions League campaign with victory – with Rashford’s second-half double sinking Newcastle United.
The Magpies’ hopes were dashed following a superb individual display from the revived England star as he got off the mark for the La Liga giants. The match hung in the balance until a header defeated Nick Pope, before Rashford struck an early contender for goal of the season from distance.
After weaving past Sandro Tonali, the 27-year-old fired a curling strike right into the top corner – and past his Three Lions colleague in between the posts at St James’ Park. The display grabbed the attention of Fernandes and Sancho who both headed to social media to express their amazement at Rashford’s moments of magic.

Aston Villa winger Sancho posted the opening goal to his story – tagging Rashford – captioning it with a fire and saluting emoji before following up with two more emojis after his spectacular strike. Fernandes did likewise as he posted the long-range effort on social media, with the Portuguese midfielder sharing two mind-blown emojis with a shocked face in between.
On commentary, Ally McCoist was left speechless by the quality of the United loanee.
He said on TNT Sports: “Deary, deary me. That’s absolutely majestic.
“It’s a thing of beauty. That man (Thomas Tuchel) should be applauded with the greatest respect, ah, I thought he was attempting to hit earlier… wow.
“It’s just fabulous football from Rashford. It dips in the last minute I think, in off the underside of the bar – and it’s a fantastic goal.”
The Catalan giants endured a tense finale as Anthony Gordon pulled one back during injury time, while Rashford was denied a treble in the closing moments after being substituted by Dani Olmo. Speaking as part of TNT Sports’ coverage, Joe Cole said: “He was sensational, too often we’ve not seen it consistently but we know the quality, the ability he’s got.
“Barcelona showed too much quality, too much creativity. It’s Marcus Rashford’s night, he was sensational tonight.”
